Is LOTRO Dead?

I have been out of the game for a few years. I started it with my fellowship but over the years we all lost contact and I want to be bale to play the game again. Is there anything I should know before jumping back in on a new character?

What is the best server to start on?

Has the game changed much since 2016?

Compared to most MMOs, yeah it's pretty dead. You'll still find players here and there but they're either max level or in the low level range. Most servers usually have numbers in the hundreds online and even less active because most AFK due to lack of content. It's a decent game for lore and world exploration but the low budget of the game really shows. So many other games out there that you'll get your money and time's worth. I played this game for around 6ish years and loved most of my time on it, but you'll see that content comes out so sparsely that you'll often get bored and take breaks.

Uhhh, I see players in every zone I have been to up to level 44, on Brandywine server(And bree, the hub, is decently full). Brandywine and Arkenstone are quite populated. Statistics we have available show about 35 logins to Brandywine every 5 minutes to put it in perspective. Not as much as other mmos, but definitely not dead. You can still get groups for a lot of content.

There's 800 people on the steam launcher right now, even though most people play through the launcher on the website, so there's at least 2000 people online right now

in comparison to WoW you could say that's dead, but for me I think it's okay
