crazy lag on high end PC
hello there! I have played lotro for a long time. and I have always had lag issues. thing is, I run ESO and other games just like LOTRO superfine on the highest settings. but on lotro... even on the lowest settings I have lagg and stuttering. I have tried everything. reinstalled the game. lowered ALL the graphics, got files from your support, got an SSD, now even a graphic card (GTX 1070 6GB) and it still dosnt help ONE BIT!! I want this crap to go away! and I want you guys help! PLEASE help me fix this weird thing. as I said I run games from this year that is more demanding flawless. but not lotro..... as I said... I play ESO ) Elder Scrolls Online on max settings and never have lagg. (I have a i5 core aswell)

its about server lag, nothing u can do about it talking about Ettenmoors, Bree etc. there is alot of players time to time and areas like Minas Thrit always laggy if u even have hyper gaming pc and thats about how bad devs are at Turbine that ignores this type of topics and says we have to deal with it.

It's the engine's fault and at this point changing the whole engine is not something manageable. They are doing tweaks here and there but it will take a lot of time to get it to run better. Best you can do is set your settings so you get the least of that stuttering and try to play like that. It's annoying but it can be ignored and you can still have fun with the game.

hm ok, but as I said above I get the same amount of FPS drops even on the LOWEST setting on every graphic setting... its very sad...

Boboscus has said everything, the engine is a 32-bits one, so it doesn't really take advantage of the power of your computer, even if it is a good one. For example, only one core on the four of the processor is really used (ESO has not this problem, Guild Wars 2 neither, because they work in 64-bits). The problem I encounter is that there are always drops of fps when landscape is loading when I traval accros the areas (if I put the game in 'low", the fps will be better, but there will always be these 'loadings'). It seems that the team is working on a 64-bits client which may improve things, but 2018 will tell if that happens and how much this will help...

32/64 bit has nothing to do with how many cores are used, only how much memory can be used by the game. (well, and of course 64 bit precision instead of 32, but that doesn't matter for LotRO)

The game engine is 10 years old, and not build to take full advantage of multiple cores.

IIRC you can set some graphics buffer size in the settings (don't know where without looking it up). If you increase this, it will help some with zone transitions.
Also an SSD disk helps with stuttering (faster loading of terrain etc).
Lag is caused by network latency, and not by your hardware (unless you have really crappy networking at home)

I hoped the 64-bit client SSG is working on would help about the number of cores the game could use. If it is not the case, according to what you explain (now that you say it, it is true that I have some 32-bit games which use dual core), it seems that unfortunately, a bit of improvement for the memory usage won't change the game a lot :/

Well, when they port to 64 bit they might take the opportunity to do some multithreading improvements, but it's not a simple case of toggling a switch :-/

The biggest help is that there will be less code/data swapping, which will improve performance.

all these things you say I can do I have already done. with no effect. so I guess IM stuck with these issues forever on this game.... :/

We all have to bare with them, luckily the game is very much worth it if you can find joy in features it provides.

Here are a few things I've done to improve the lag/fps drops a bit, though it's not 100% solved. You may have to tweak a little.
Change affinity of lotroclient.exe to 1, max 2 cores.
Change priority to High or even Real Time, though sometimes the latter causes sound crackling (Strix soar 7.1)
In the Nvidia panel, set the game to Maximum Performance
In the game options, reduce the engine performance (counterintuitive)
I've also noticed improvement by moving the game to an SSD. Suspect texture loading may be part of the problem.
I also tweaked an ini file to increase memory usage a bit but I can't check details right now. I found most these tricks via Google.

Thx mate! Will look into these tweaks! Already have SSD so thats covered :)
