And having only recently upgraded to Win 8.1 I can attest to the fact it works great on Vista sp2.
What Direct X version are you running? Direct X 9 is required for XP (per the game manual - I still have my original disks and manuals). Also check all your drivers.
I have no clue if it still works on Win XP, but I know you'll need to have all your stuff up to date as possible.
LOTRO doesnt work on windows XP anymore. It need at least Vista sp2. Steam needs to correct this in their minimal system requirements.
Marbar : benefits of XP ? it's very fast and light on my old PC, and I cannot play any new games, because my PC is too slow for them..I dont need to play many games : Dota 2 and Team Fortress work perfectly on windows XP. And also Firefox browser and VLC. I keep XP because I bought it with my old PC.
Then you probably wouldn't be able to play LOTRO either, it's requirments got higher by a lot over last 2 years or so.
If you want to extend the car metaphor, which is dubious at best, it's like owning a Saturn. Maybe it was a great car when you bought it, but they don't make replacement parts anymore and no one services them. When things go wrong (and they will - your car is 20 years old), you won't be able to fix it. Or maybe the metaphor is that your "vintage" car needs leaded gas, which you can't buy anymore.
You do realize that MS doesn't release a new OS every year, right? And that they gave everyone a free update to Win10? And that the OS is amazingly vulnerable to cybercrime?
