"2002: Sorry, this payment method is unavailable."
Particularly frustrating given that Payment Via Steam is the only way to pay if you have the game installed through Steam. Anyone else having this issue and/or heard of a timeline for a fix?

Yes, this is a problem, but I haven't seen anything about it from Standing Stone.
Anyway, you can also start the TurbineLauncher.exe directly from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lord of the Rings Online\

This way you won't use the Steam Overlay, and you will have the option to pay with creditcard or PayPal in the store.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, when I attempt to launch the game directly through TurbineLauncher.exe I'm greeted by an error message indicating that I'm missing certain .dll files on my computer (notably QtWebKit4, QtXml4, QtGui4, and QtNetwork4). I'm not sure why these files are evidently unnecessary when launching through Steam but required for launching directly from the executable, but there you have it. The fates have conspired *not* to take my money for once, and I'm strangely dissatisfied. This must be a paradoxical day for the Gods of Capitalism.
I ran LoTRO from the actual app instead of Steam
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Lord of the Rings Online\TurbineLauncher.exe
and then I was able to make my VIP purchase. But make sure you are launching the TurbineLauncher.exe and not the lotorclient.exe.

After I quit and logged back in via Steam and my account was showing the VIP status. It's at least a fix until the Steam problem is fixed.

Those files should be present in the same folder. Their installation date/time suggests that they are part of the original install.

I tried running the TurbineLauncher using Total Commander (that's how I normally browse through Windows), and even the Windows explorer (<windows key> e).
Both methods work here.

Sorry, I can't help you any further I'm afraid

I was able to get it to work! I didn't realize that I was actually attempting to launch via the TurbineLauncher within the [Backup] directory inside the LOTRO installation folder. I've since used the other TurbineLauncher executable inside the game's folder proper, and it worked! I was able to purchase using PayPal. Thanks a bunch.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but when this problem came along, it fixed itself in a few hours and I was still able to buy LOTRO points through steam.

Can't You just disable Steam Overlay In Game Settings?

Wait, does this work-around allow purchases with the Steam wallet? Because that's the only way I can pay for coins/VIP.

No, this workaround starts LotRO without any knowledge of Steam, so the store will fall back to CC & Paypal as payment options. To purchase using your Steam wallet, you need to wait until the issue gets fixed, unfortunately.

you shouldn't have any problem buying vip or coins via the website, log-in using your steam id/email
I really wonder if any employee of SSG reads any comments on the LOTRO forums or here.....not the smallest sign of life from the company on any issues - seems like they don´t want or need the money

LotRO has its own website/forum. That's where you'll find them. Stam is nice, and every once in a blue moon you'll see one of the devs/mods here too, but if you have an issue, this is not the place to go.
