The Lord of the Rings Online™

Future for lord of the rings online in 2021
I think i wished that before they shutdown they should at least make a sineplayer clone of this so fans can keep on playing. Singleplayer can keep playing forever, online really can't depends on money and support. believe me i would play it day and night if they did im just not someone who can play thousands of dollars to play the game for over 25 years.

I have thought about this too, but realized it wouldn't really work. Even though I'm pretty much a solo player, the chance meetings and conversations with others are what gives "life" to the game. Trying to play it as a singleplayer would be like being a zombie - walking around, but already dead.

I am more of a solo player, but a game THIS big as a purely single player game? seems wrong, just like how Skyrim or Oblivion is a single player game and have such a huge word to explore...it just wasn't done right. lol
but really singleplayer games do not have enough content to actual last for a long time. the only way for this game to actual last for 100 years is that we have to give players at least 450+ content otherwise it would really not last for less than 20 years. i am certainly not into campaine anymore in some games. but more like: LIVING IN Lord of the rings seems more life like and more realistic in games we play. i would rather play a online game by myself than with players cause i hate player vs player and players taking advantage of you.

when you play games your actual living their dream. don't you want to live your dream the way you want it to be.

Lotro is not pvp, and most players here do not take advantage of you. If you were playing by yourself, you would miss out on all the stuff that make "living in Lord of the Rings" real... like musicians practicing in the crafthall or performing at the Pony, or kinships parading through town to celebrate some kin event. (or, for that matter, there even BEING kins! ) Who would I play hide'n'seek with, or share questing with? As I said earlier, I mostly play solo, but if I were here all alone, I never would have stayed past the first week, let alone 4.5 years!!

All MMOs should make a offline version when they shut down just for nostalgic reasons even if there is no other people to play with they should still release and offline client so people who like to just roam the world and remember the good times can do that

also there is alot of stuff in this game that can be done solo

I can't stand solo play games. I might as well be back in 1981 playing 'space invaders'

they should do like the old Neverwinter Nights and allow people to just set up their own servers and host however many people they want. But the IP is all about skimming every last pfennig out of fans.

Or make Lotro 2. I would love to see Lotro with updated graphics, combat, and be less of a WoW clone. I believe the mistake most mmorpgs make is trying to be WoW. I hate WoW. :steamsalty:

Yeah, I keep wondering why they keep WoW such an EverQuest clone. Come up with something original for once :steammocking:

They haven't finished the main story yet, although we're getting close to Mordor.
What would LotRO 2 bring? The same story with better graphics?
All it would do is divide the playerbase over 2 games.

And yes, LotRO with a newer graphics engine would be cool, but in the end it's the story that makes the game IMO. Hell, I still play MUDs that play better than a lot of so called 'AAA' titles.

And where did you get the 2021 date from? I hope it doesn't shut down for a long time. LOTRO has a great community and I have made lot of friends. It is more than just a game to me.

I am really not sure this will last that long, I hope it does but with the dropping of more and more players plus the recent switching of companies it does not look good. If anything they will stop adding content and combine into even less servers as each server costs money to run and the cost to pay Devs to create and add new content, updates etc.

the player numbers are growing and the fact a new company bought the licence was very good, far from bad

The licence for all Tolkien related content is hold by Middle-earth Enterprises and is licenced to SSG on a yearly basis, they refuse to extend the duration. So if tomorrow EA contacts them with the intention to make a Lotro MMO......

Now add a publisher with a shady and bad rep.....We'll see, if Lotro makes it to 2021, I wouldn't bet my money on it.

Won't happen. Turbine promised this exact thing with Asheron's Call and the lawyers shot it down. And that was with IP they actually owned.
