Fix to Network Errors
I'm getting constant network errors when my internet is perfectly fine and I'm not lagging. Is there some kind of patch to this or what?

There's a lot of causes for network errors.

First off, depending on the size of the lobby, up to half of the time it's not your fault.

You should make sure that all relevant ports this game uses are not actively blocked. STUN (the method in which this game/Steamworks uses to negotiate port connections between peers) is a pretty decent way of connecting; however it will fail in situations where you or the peer have got a restricted NAT.

So I'd recommend ensuring that things like UPnP etc. are on, and any firewalls (hardware or software) you have have this program/its ports whitelisted for both inbound and outbound.

Additionally monitor your ping during gameplay to see if you aren't bottlenecking anywhere.

Easiest way to do this is to open a command prompt (Start -> type in cmd -> hit enter), and type in:
ping 8.8.8.8 -t
Leave this running while playing and look for any spikes in the time= field when playing the game.

how can i ensure that all the ports in the games networking aren't blocked?
IceBlade Aug 5, 2013 @ 8:13pm
First off I'd forward these ports to your computer:

UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 3478 (Outbound)
UDP 4379 (Outbound)
UDP 4380 (Outbound)

If you have trouble, post back with your router's brand and model and I might be able to guide you through how to do this.

Glad I'm not the only one this is happening to. I get kicked off rather frequently, especially when I'm in first place, and even with nobody else using the internet and no other internet-using programs running. -100 rating every time it happens, just to add insult to injury. Rather frustrating, especially since I don't have this issue with other games.

You shouldn't have any rating penalties if you network error out of a game in progress.. :O

If you crash you will though.

Okay I did that, and did an online race and had no problems. Will do some more races and post back. Thanks for the current help you gave me. You're awesome!

No crashes, I always get network error'd out, and when going back to Matchmaking I receive a penalty for not completing the match I just got errored out of.

Is there a long freeze before the Network Error happens?
Enkay Aug 5, 2013 @ 8:48pm
Nope, I'll just be racing happily along, and then this happens. It claims I've "lost connection" to the Internet, as if Steam had gone offline, but my Internet is working fine and dandy and I can even re-connect to the same lobby I got booted out of.

That's a different Network Error to the one that is most commonly experienced. Obviously that's Steam kicking up a fuss, not the game.

Maybe try launching Steam (not the game) with the -tcp switch and see if that helps?

Thats the same error I get, and I just got it. How would I go about doing what you just said to do?

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I've also had the "long freeze" disconnect, but I can't figure out what that's related to.

Right click your Steam shortcut and go to Properties, in the Target field, add -tcp after the ". Exit out of Steam and run it again.

I don't even know if Transformed's peer system will play nicely with this, but it's worth a shot.

My steam shortcut doesn't have properties..? just settings.

Windows 8?

If so, right click on Steam on the Start Screen, click 'Open File Location', then right click on the Steam shortcut that is shown, and then click Properties.
