Metal Sonic DLC Pack review - is it worth it?
Well, I bet you're wondering "is it worth it?". I'm going to go over that. I chose to write my review here rather than as a recommendation because it would be more visible.

First off, we have Metal Sonic. He's a balanced Speed & Boost character with a unique, slightly above average stat distribution as his base. Overall though, he is very similar to Shadow from a competitive point of view, to the point where both Shadow and Metal Sonic's console mods are identical. His car is very well designed and seems to have slightly more detail than the rest of the cast, and the same goes for his player model.

An interesting fact first seen in Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed - Metal Sonic inexplicably has a skeleton. Whether this is just an internal support structure or Metal Sonic not actually being a machine but rather an unknown hedgehog in a suit of armour - Iron Man style - is still to be determined. To check it out for yourself, race as Metal Sonic on Race of Ages or Curien Mansion and intentionally get electrocuted.

Overall, Metal Sonic is entirely a character only worth it if you want him. He's a interesting but redundant addition to the game.

As for Outrun Bay, It's a somewhat unbalanced track. There is a 3x Speed pickup along the fastest line - you don't have to go out of the way to get it - and in general the track favors high speed (Sonic, Metal Sonic, Shadow, Vyse) and high-boost (Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Shogun, Team Fortress, Metal Sonic, Shadow) characters. I'd recomend either Shadow or Metal Sonic for Time Trials. Don't even bother with Ulala, Pudding or Amigo on this one.

My thoughts on Outrun Bay are simple - it's not that interesting of a track. It's fun and a good beginner track that would help with transitioning to the harder tracks, but overall I wouldn't worry about it.

Overall, I would say the Metal Sonic DLC Pack is worth however much you want it. Metal Sonic is a neat, if redundant addition, and Outrun Bay is a neat, if somewhat lacking track.

Is it worth it? That's really up to you. I personally thought it was worth it (metal sonic fan here), but I honestly can't say it's a must-have for everyone. If you're on the edge about it, I can say that at $3 USD, in the US at least, there's not much harm in getting the DLC pack -worst case scenerio you're down $3 USD. That's not even 30 minutes at minimum wage here in the US.

Since you can't play OutRun bay in matchmaking (you can still use it multiplayer in a custom lobby), the pack is pure cosmetic more than anything. I took a look at Metal Sonic's acceleration mod: the stats with it are identical to Vyse/Acceleration, B.D. Joe/Acceleration, and Tails/Speed (among others). You're not missing a whole lot if you don't get it, but he's still a pretty cool character. If you're not willing to pay for cosmetics, you're not missing much from OutRun Bay, and you can still play it if you join a custom lobby with a friend who has it.

OutRun Bay's Staff ghosts are reflected on the license card however, if you're a completionist, you may find that you're missing 8 staff ghosts (though I don't think it will say 160/168 if you don't have OutRun Bay unlocked).

Should be noted, this price actually covers the preorder discount if you took advantage of it. If you did a four-pack, you're still paying less than retail if you went in with friends.

I bought it because I'm a total fan of Metal Sonic and any of the Metal Series. Great Review. Outrun is pretty sweet too. Still trying to ace that Expert time trial.

Mine was 160/160 before I bought the DLC and 160/168 after I bought it.

Also 26/26 characters pre, 27/27 with DLC.

Just played the Outrun track it was very boring, i'd prefer Chilly Castle on S class then that track i like Metal sonic as an extra character though very sleek design.

I don't think anyone is going to be having buyer's remorse over $3 / $4

I decided to go over this since there's a bit of a taboo over payed DLC. Some people think that having to pay anything for additional content needs to be justified.

Well you have a point there, but compared to other DLC prices it's still a no-brainer to me.

I look at it like this, the cost of this game at launch on console was £39.99rrp and most PC AA/A games are betweeen £29.99rrp & £39.99rrp - this game on PC costs only £19.99 (and even cheaper if you get via deals) and is even better than those versions.

So, if a track and a character costs £1.99 and the game costs £19.99, 5 DLC packs would take it to about £29.99. Now i actully paid £13.50 (GMG deal) so i would be more than happy to buy 8 DLC packs taking me to about £29.50.

I'm usally against DLC but mainly when it's on full price games and high price DLC to boot, however here we have a low priced game and low price DLC - so i'm all for it.

Well, this post helped me to decide, I'm not getting it, Wanted it mostly because of outrun bay, but meh, I'm gonna save my money and might get it during a sale, I'm more interested on the characters sega approved some time ago

Wait for 50% @ summer. Not a big deal.

I got mine from GMG and even with the DLC, it wasn't even 25 bucks altogether. DLC is actually the main reason I tried to get a good deal on the core game.

As for the content, I enjoy using Metal Sonic (even though his All Star music is from Sonic 4...at least they picked the best one), and while Outrun Bay is meh, it still brings back memories of playing the acrcade game.

As others have said though, if you're not a Metal Sonic fan, you can skip this for now.
