The AI is cheating
It's really annoying to see games with an AI like this in 2013

The difficulty level does not make the AI play better, it define how much they cheat
You can play with the fastest character (Sonic with speed mod or another one with max boost), take all the boosts and drift all the time the AI will always be as fast as you in Expert mode (or faster than you), even the caracters that have 1 in speed.
Most of the time they will even go faster than the max speed you can get yourself, it's crazy.

It's just luck, sometimes the AI will let you win, sometimes they will completly destroy you with items and go way faster than you

I have completed more than 50% of the game, I won a lot of races in expert difficulty but it's really annoying to play with an AI like this

I wouldn't mind if the multiplayer was great, but ATM I can't even play because it takes 5 minutes to find a game with matchmaking and most of the time there are only 1 or 2 players

I've already suggested for them to improve the twister vs. the AI. As is, getting the twister is the same as getting no item at all. It won't slow them down when it hits, and the AI drives just as fine backwards as it does forward. Heck, even 150cc AI has it's driving messed up when hit by a blooper in Mario Kart.

In the first game there was an option to turn off the "cheating". It was "catch up on/off" I think, wish they added it for this game too.

I think its just to test the player really. Ever since I unlocked Vyse and even playing with the hardest AI, I manage to pull through most stages.

+1

People need to be challenged

You guys say that the AI is cheating, when in reality, they can be beaten by becoming a better player. I have a friend that tells me for each character you select on normal or hard, the game chooses 3 AI to always get in front of you... I find this hilarious. There are many ways of getting boosts, transform boosts, the boosts you run over or through, the boosts you get when picking up weapons, and drift boosts. Transform boosts are something that not a lot of players have picked up on yet. When you figure out all the tricks, you can become a better player.

Missing the point champ.

I'm all for challenge, but giving computers a speed handicap is a cheap and laughably poor design choice, especially considering you could switch it off in the first game.

I still think this is a good game, but this is very lazy from the developers.

Don't get me wrong, I play on expert and can win on expert, but that doesn't mean I enjoy the cheesiness of the AI that comes with it.

I already finished the game, I did a lot of stages in hard/expert

I am not saying that you can't win, I'm saying that the AI is cheating, that's all.

I hope they add this in Transformed as an update!

Well, I placed 1st in every Grand Prix on Expert (including the Mirror mode). Some races I could place well just from good driving, but I found that should you get bullied by the AI, multiple fireworks up the exhaust pipe and so on, just wait till you grab an All-Star powerup, hang onto it, and pop it in the last section of the final lap. Tada! First. Some might call it cheesy, but when the AI is being cheesy I don't find anything wrong with it. Plus in any case to pull it off you still need to maintain a decent race position while having no access to any powerups as you're holding onto the All-Star.

I've looked at the code*, the ai doesn't go by their stats, they have pre-set stats according to what position they're supposed to be in when the race ends. That's why you see aiai outrunning sonic at times, it's because aiai isn't really aiai, he's computer 1.

In short, yes, they do cheat.

*I haven't looked at the code, but I assure you that the above is entirely factual.

In a race with Ulala(who has 1 speed) she managed to stay first for a full tour and I could only pass her by using weapons. The first time I got her she accelerated back to first in 1 second,I was like wtf is that bs.

This is my biggest pet peeve of both this genre and Fighting games (more on those later). S&ASRT isn't the biggest offender in this situation either in the speed category (Mario Kart 64) or items category (Mario Kart Wii AKA Mario Kart: Blue Shell Fest), but it's still reletivally up there on the list.

Of course, as I mentioned before, fighting games can be just as bad, if not worse, than kart racers in this aspect. Predicting movements based on control input, utilizing the computer's exact timing and pinpoint accuracy, etc.

Either way it's still an severe anoyance that really needs to be left in the past in favor of bot based AI.

As long as you still have to win by using your items as experienced as you can and driving as good as possible, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a "cheating" A.I., especially if the game is more fun to play this way.

Do you want developers spend an absurd amound of money on building a "realistic" A.I., which actually knows how to race, shot and improvise just like a human can? Money, which can be spend on gameplay, finetuning, content and presentation etc? I'm grateful they obviously decided to not spend it on the A.I..

I guess all you meant, when creating this thread was "OMG the hard-difficulty is so hard, the developers have make it easy, so i can trick myself into believing i'm good at something. Screw the concept of hard difficulties actually being hard!"
