Why does sonic need a car?

I recall the dude running over water and flying through space.. so why does he need a car now?

Sonic can't fly or swim, and while he can run on water the risk of getting hit and drowning is still pretty high. So, he uses a transforming car.

here is all the reasons to why Sonic needs a car
1: Sonic likes to master new skills. He is already the fastest runner, so now he can try to be the fastest driver.
2:If Sonic was running he's opponents won't have a chance
3:Moving cargo is easier with a car
4:Sonic is not so good at sharp turns.
5: HE IS IN A CAR RACE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
6:Walking on a racetrack filled with cars is dangerous
7:The car can fly and float on water. Sonic can't
8:Sonic might feel bumped and left out if everyone gets a cool car except him
9:Sonic is secretly the Stig from top gear

He can, but his feet wear out. His shoes are only there to handle the intense friction caused by his speed. In the original comics, his uncle was an inventor that made the shoes for him as a kid.

I like how this video is trying to take into account his height to measure his speed but completly ignores that he's grown taller over the years, best depicted by Generations where you can see Classic and Modern together.
