General Winter's All Star music. I'd buy that music anyday.
Actually... does anyone notice the General and Willemus getting WAY too many All Star pickups, or is it just me?
While I did enjoy Double Dash more it was also an absolute cluster****. The items flying around was insane, the giant items were crazy and baby park don't get me started on baby park. It was also the first game to introduce the dreaded flying blueshell which made me a raging 12 year old child. Remember it's 10 years old now. So no double dash was not more skill based then Mario Kart Wii.
The manual powerslide feature removal was good because by the time Mario Kart DS came out, the system was exploit so much that snaking became prevalent like in F-Zero GX.
Guys. It's clearly obvious that LittleBigPlanet Karting is the best.
I do enjoy Mario Kart, though. If I get a Wii U in the future, I'll probably pick up MK8. But I do enjoy SART a lot more. The only problem it has in comparison to Mario Kart, IMO, is the potential for massive breakaway leads (which was an even bigger issue in S&SASR...luckily they toned it down a bit.) And I don't mean "because the person in 1st is better", just "because the person in 1st got all of ten meters ahead and as such isn't in a 6-way ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is mutually slowing places 2nd-7th down tremendously".
As blasphemous as this may sound, it's a good case for why an item kart racer needs a "blue shell" kind of item. That said, the Swarm/Skytigers are a fair compromise between "takes out the lead" and "can be evaded". Especially if you're flying.
But, clearly, I digress.
Though it would be awesome if instead of just Mario and Sonic, we combine Nintendo and SEGA All Stars Racing. Ooh, the possibilities would be endless. I'd be happy if the 3rd Sonic Wii U exclusive ended up being that crossover, to make up for those crappy olympic games.
Plus it has a Diamond City course, which is refreshing.
My stance on each game would be:
Super Mario Kart: Um... yeah. It's alright.
64: Blatent rubber banding, but still fun
Super Circuit: Bleh. Slippery steering controls.
Double Dash: Duo racer groups made things fun/ interesting, and rubber banding didn't feel as bad. Blue Shell... don't recall it being broken yet.
DS: Too much Blue Shell. Snaking caused too much controversy. Otherwise, it was fun.
Wii: Bikes got a little too much going for them. But otherwise, one of the best (minus, you know, Blue Shells still being all too common).
7: Only complaint off the top of my head, is Blue Shells.
8: TBD
As far as the Sonic Racing games go, they do feel a lot more balanced, and they have a better sense of speed.
I was confused by your present-tense tone, as I was under the impression that GP2 was the last Mario Kart Arcade. I didn't know a new Arcade GP came out this year (well, in Japan, with North America getting it in 2013 or so). Shame I'll probably never get to try it.
Yes, Mario Kart 8 is coming next year on WiiU.
This
1st place is by far the safest spot in the game, 2nd and 3rd place being the most scary.
The fact that swarms effect 2nd and 3rd also makes them have to worry about constant shots from all sides while avoiding traps that were originally aimed at 1st while also getting reversed shot by the player in 1st. While 2nd and 3rd try to kill each other, 1st only gets farther and farther ahead uncontested.
