Character Compare.
Has any body notice that Amy Rose and a few other racers have very low statistics when compared to other characters cars. Example : Shadow, Gilius Thunderhead and Vyse. I will use Amy Rose for my next example, having speed that only gets up to three, boost that gets up to four and having a low all-star wtih acceleration adding little to the game not having many walls that are hard to avoid. I am also comparing the cars statistics to Mario Kart Wii and Jax X Combat Racing.

Most of the racers having a max set of 12 statistics makes some racers unbalanced and I wonder why they did that? Giving Ralph three speed and five boost on he's balanced mod compared to Amy's one speed and three boost on her balanced mod.

It's because her other stat allocation were put on acceleration and handling. In a way, she gains her speed faster and turns easier. But I never liked Acceleration myself. You gain your speed faster then what? Only your speed leads from there. Acceleration is only useful if you get hit but if you do a short drift boost, you kill the purpose of acceleration.

But they can be easily defeated on more curved tracks (burning depths, race of AGES, chilly castle etc.) by Amy.
As the game says each car has their own unique stats, and so Amy is intended for more curved tracks. However in the hands of a pro she can do well on every single track. I remember that I owned a lot of people with Amy on tracks like Dream valley or Carrier zone.

Not really, 5/1/1/5 or 4/1/1/6 can still easily out speed characters like Amy on those tracks, especially Dream Valley. You can pretty much take any turn easily with 1 handling. Even in the hands of a pro, she's not faster than 5/1/1/5 or 5/1/1/6 on curved tracks or else you'll see her at the top of the Time Attack leaderboards.

Naxer, I win with Amy Rose a lot of times. Why is it that Amy Rose has to deal with being slow but not Shadow, Gilius Thunderhead, Vyse, and more. All characters are good in the hands of a pro, it just rubs me the wrong way when someone makes a character a lot slower then the others and there mods do not help get them the stat of which it is name. Me being a good driver does not make Amy fast in stats.

I had many occasions to complain about the characters balance both here and on segaforums. What's the point in having your favourite character in the game if you can't play him competitively ? Knuckles is not a bottom tier character, but there's no way I can hope to achieve top 10 in TA leaderboards against the best AGES, Gillius, Metal Sonic and the likes on most tracks.
Eventhough SOL admitted recently that they didn't design the game to be played competitively, I really hope they'll add a custom mod option in the next game so that you can really enjoy playing your favourite characters.

Custom mod. That is a great idea! SOL do something like that :D
Btw. I'm keep owning people with Amy.
Seraphita 18/mai./2014 às 8:51
A custom mod would defeat the purpose of the current stat system. I don't remember any racing game in which all characters are as good as any other ones. Everyone would make any characters 5/1/1/5 lol...

Then again, this could make us try how much a 1/5/5/1 build really suck compared to every other builds out there but yeah, no. This wouldn't happen.

A custom mod is a great idea, and if they what to keep people from getting the same stats then they can start making the other stats better. A racing game with all the characters having the same stats is good thing when the weapons don't have much homing. Somewhat like nascar but nascar has no weapons.

I suggested custom mods ages ago, so I know how it can work and benefit the game, but on the flip side, people would drop AGES in a heartbeat for characters with smaller frames. Hell, Yogscast would be promoted from Dan Hibiki of ASRT all the way to Super Turbo Akuma of ASRT.

Also, it was a great honor to face you in a series of 1v1s against you earlier today.... I wish I recorded it, though.

In the end you can win against opponets who score less drifts and flips than you and maximum AI to the extent that items won't even equalize it. If you are matcchmaked against a player who is your equal in nailing drifts and flip boosts, or trying to set a time trial, then yes, the acceleration charathers are always worse than ones with points in boost and top speed. It's been like this forever, in mario kart the (non exploit) high scores are dominated by daisy, funky kong and mii, who have the best drift boost stats, same for burnout and f zero really (with top speed being a factor when cars have equal boost.) And for realistic car sims GP, I wouldn't even think of trying for best time trial without the mclaren or its equivalent, Speed and boost when its available are the only contenders for a pure run through a level, because racing games don't get released if there's no feasible route through every level with all vehicles.... handling levels make each car feel and play different, but aren't a substitute for a real stat.

On the flip side, acceleration charathers lose less time from item hits, and in an actual race, you can throw opponents off by not having to change your cars facing on drifts to the extent that ages or vyse would. I don't see what's to complain about, even though I can murderize people in time trials in all games mentioned, I can still randomly lose to a mr. EAD, baby bowser, or an Amiga.

In Mario Kart Wii it helps slow characters that the tracks are not so big and the items can lock on to other racers and last longer with the fastest car and bike not get use that much online for being to fast the Jetsetter and Spear. In F-Zero GX the tracks are a lot harder than what we have in Sonic Racing, where as in F-Zero GX to much speed can be a bad thing to have.
Reality 31/mai./2014 às 15:57
The jetsetter and spear don't work as well for drift boosts, and of course online they are worse than the mach bike/ flame runner. The F Zero tracks are hard, but even on phantasm road I think I'd choose more speed than acceleration, It might close the distance on that one map where you have to hug the shoulder buttons on every straightway, but going semi slow on corners can be equalled with a very few straightaways, and boost compounds it, especially since on all of the last prix maps, there is an extended turn that you can actually strike out across instead of drifting.

I used to use acceleration charathers jut about all the time, but I just like being able to bet on only having to brush with the other racers the first time I pass them, and then have a stronger racing line that prevents catch up shenanigans. I don't want the last 20 seconds of every race to be spent checking the rear view and occasionally physically blocking opponents.
