Mario Kart for PC?

I keep seeing people praising this game that I normally wouldn't bother taking any look at.

One thing would get me to buy this game: If it is pretty much Mario Kart for PC. I -LOVE- Mario Kart (played them since the SNES release when I was a kid), easily one of the only racing games I actaully can play hours of.

So, what's the word?

Well,not quite Mario Kart for PC.It has it's own neat features and mechanics but still works really similar to Mario Kart.I think you should give it a try and it also really cheap at the Humble Store right now https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/sega (i guess thats why you asked in the first place )

It's the same sub-genre (kart racer), but it puts more effort into balanced items (a few super pickups on some tracks can break things a little). Also, the game's drifting and stunt mechanics are easy to pick up, but part of the the challenge (and the fun) is knowing how and when to drift, stunt, and release boosts.

I also feel it has a better sense of speed then Mario Kart.

So... no, it's not a clone, but if you enjoy Mario Kart, then there's a good chance you'll like this (perhaps even moreso).

And it might be worth mentioning that the game can be bought for $5 at the Humble Bundle store right now.

So far I'm liking it. Only real complaint right now is that I enjoy the driving way more than the water/air parts. I kinda wish I could do 1-2 more laps in my kart before going to water/air.

I've always wanted something like mario kart 64 in PC, specially with multiplayer. And finally i found it in this game, it's really like mario kart 64. But different maps, characters, graphics are really good, the animations, etc. You can use and throw things like in mk64 (shells, bananas, star, mushrooms, etc.) I really like this game, i just hope my multiplayer problems get solved, but still the single player its great.

Well,the flying takes some time to get used to IMO but i think the boat stuff is completely fine.

I got used to the flying and water crafting, I just like the driving parts more :) the others are still fun though, I just wish there was more driving instead of driving only being 1/3rd of the race.

I was thinking of gifting my girlfriend this game, but I think it's a little too demanding control-wise if one wants to be minimally competitive (compared to Crash Team Racing on the PS1). I myself shied away at first because it seemed to be very hard to get 1st place (I have over 90 stars now).

No hurry, I'll just wait for the next sale.

It's such a pretty game to look at and soundtrack is amazing. I was a Mega Drive and Master System) guy back in the day (got my Mega Drive in 1997), therefore I'm familiar with most of the character roster.

If you are looking for a mario kart game go check out speedrunner . no i know it does not have kart but the game is as fun as mario kart in multiplayer! (and for 10$ its a must buy)

You could pick up the original game (Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing) as there are no transformations in that game - it's all karts.
I'm not sure who is playing it these days but it should be a fun romp with the computer AI, anyway.
(If you do pick it up, be aware that the graphics settings in the loader were backwards on my system, i.e. Low was really High and vice versa).
