Game not starting at all?
Long story short, I installed this game, clicked play, it began to run the "first time setup" but after a while, said "first time setup" gave me an error and now the game will not start in the slightest.

I have already tried:
>Verifying integrity
>Uninstalling & Reinstalling twice (though I did notice that the reinstalls did not attempt a first time setup)
>Restarting steam
>Looking online, to which I found some guy saying you need to set the sound on your PC to 24 bit studio quality or 16 bit DVD quality. Problem is, my default PC settings were already at this (in fact, they were the only settings I had)
>And yes, I did read the bug faq. Most of the problems are related to the game crashing upon starting as opposed to not starting at all.
>I even tried making sure steam and windows were updated
>and manually removing the Sonic All Stars file from my steam files before reinstalling again

Anyone else experience a similar problem?

I'm also experiencing this problem, sadly.

Update: It's working for me now, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and instead of trying to launch Config with my controller plugged in, I first launched the main game with no controller in use, then I was able to launch config with the controller in afterwards. Not sure if any of that made a difference aside from reinstalling, though.

Hmmm. Maybe it just needed a couple days? I wouldn't know since I'm on M&KB

I myself have yet to find a solution. Been trying to get it to work for a while now.

Honestly, at this point I just refunded it to my friend since it was a gift. I didn't want him wasting his money on something that I couldn't play

You have to set the launcher.exe to compatibility mode to Windows 7 or Vista to skip signature signing exploit fix in Windows. It turns out that this is one of the very few apps that have problems running under new versions of Windows.

The devs could just replace or rebuild the app but for some reason they don't.

Same here, just selected Windows 7 within the compatibility mode and then it run just fine on my W11 Laptop.

For anyone still having this problem - unplugging my controller, changing compatibility mode for all users on launcher.exe to windows 7 & rebooting worked for me. I think compatibility mode was the actual trick but I did all 3 at the same time.

This was on Windows 10 pro version 22H2.

Win11: For me this works. First fire the game away normally to get the install process out of the way. Game wont run and will end in 'Game is already running'.

Now locate the steamapps\common\Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed\launcher.exe - run it, configure your video and set control for player 1 gamepad if you got one

Quit and save. Run the game from library view. when steam says 'game wants to make changes yes/no' - select 'No' every time otherwise it kills the config and you have to start from beginning.

Start the game with no controller plugged in. Run past the title screen to create a save profile. exited the game. plugged the controller back in. started the game and it will works.

I unplugged my gamepad, and started the options via launcher.exe (Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed). There you have to choose gamepad at controls. I also did some changes to graphics etc. Suddenly the game starts flawlessly.

Maybe a different error, but mine said 'Error: Game already running' when I tried to launch it. So I navigated to... C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - then deleted 'installscript.vdf' and it now starts fine.

I was wondering what was up but didn't want to start messing around. I did this and it loaded fine thank you :).

Installed the game a little bit ago, and it wouldn't start, but did this and now the game starts normally.
