I hope that helps.
Seeing how few "expert"-levels I've completed, and missing many "hard" ones as well, they actually did this on purpose.
It's just more noticeable in this game since you need to do the higher difficulties to get all the unlocks -- in other games you can just play on "easy" and still get everything, so you never have to touch normal, hard or insane difficulties unless you're going for the respective achievements.
So, it's not just some old shack burning. It's actually the whole town that's on fire.
I don't know if this was intentional but the last sentence made me laugh.
I appreciate getting rewarded for higher difficulties and at first, doing S class was really frustrating but with almost everything else, I can just get good at it - or it's just fun. I really like ring races and battle races on S class for example, but with traffic attack it's just, well, you have to put on your OCD cap because improvision is just not an option. If you screw up too much you cannot salvage the run. Maybe this kind of point-perfect thing appeals to some people, I dunno.
I don't like that about boost races either but at least I feel like there's some improvision involved, even though I still despise them. But that was on S class difficulty, and that's fine, it's not supposed to be easy, but I'm seeing really unfair tricks by the game's spawning system in B class difficulties in some of these traffic attacks. They're just not balanced well and they honestly feel rushed.
Slightly off-topic but legit question: Did anyone actually enjoy the "Don't hit the cars!" emblems in the stupid car levels of sonic adventure 2? The only thing worse than those is "don't hit the walls" and as a kid I somehow managed to get all A rank in both. I could've likely gotten the same result slamming my face into a brick wall, it would've been more efficient.
To dodge cop cars, head straight towards them, drift away heavily, drift switch back towards where you were going. They'll miss you every time.
The whole point of this mode is to teach you how to dodge stuff. Don't get mad for running into something, because it's going to help later on when someone drops a blowfish in the worst possible spot
I hope they keep the boats and planes, if they remove planes because noobs can't learn how to move up and down I will be sad, boats need to be fixed the water and waves make some character unstable as all hell.
Maybe a countdown or rollover before using items because people fire them as soon as they get them making places with item boxes hell.
Item boxes are placed to close together, this is a problem because some people drift into them to block people from getting a item.
Item boxes to close to start of the race, like in race of ages.
EDIT: a fix for being able to replace saves to reload points or skip unlocking stuff.
We need a online join blocker if someone has not even done at least A rank GP's
I disagree with only having 2 handling points on a character. I use characters who can max out handling for traffic attack and also have good accel to make recovering easier. That means using either Tails or Robotnik for me (I only use characters who I like generally which means I don't spend a whole lot of time on Shadow the Edgehog) and it also helps to have someone with 2 or maybe 3 boost but no more, because going fast in Traffic Attack is a death sentence.
Didgling blowfish has always been a different story for me because those don't move.
I made a mistake though - some levels do give you items. I just attempt this mode so few times that I forgot but I got desperate for stars and had just S-classed the first one when I wrote this. That's kind of nice at least. I A class'd most of the others but the later ones I haven't even done B class on because they just get ridiculous.
Not entirely sure what any of that has to do with traffic attack but I kind of disagree with most of it anyway because it would ruin too much of the fun. I like having a world tour, especially since none of my friends play this game anymore and I'd rather not be stuck playing with strangers if this is their common attitude.
But I do agree boats need to have some physics changes and planes need to be more interesting since it's practically impossible to get boosts in the air. Risk boosts are pretty broken as well, I've done some stuff that should qualify as one but didn't, and I've done some that barely qualify as a risk at all and gotten a risk boost. I just stopped trying to get them entirely because they don't make any sense and there's no other way to do tricks in the air so you're stuck using items or relying on hitting boost rings which isn't very dynamic. At least you can do trricks in boats. :/
I think a nice change to items, though, would be people not being able to take your boxes. Basically not having them disappear at all as this does mean getting pushed around to try and keep you from getting items if you're stuck in the van especially at the beginning of races and even though the chaos of a madhouse is pretty entertaining, it can legitimately frustrate people. Being able to miss items is fine, having some ♥♥♥♥ grab the one out of four that you were specifically on point for is annoying.
I like the other SP modes though, my favorites are drift challenge, persuit, ring race, and boost challenge. I'm not a fan of boost races though but I guess there are people who like them. My biggest hope for a third game is basically for them to playtest the tracks before greenlighting them because the billy hatcher track is seriously unfair (I don't know anything about billy hatcher and I don't care, they wanna make another track about him? Make it not suck next time) and the burning rangers track, even though it has good music, is really narrow and kind of hellish on anything BUT boost race.
My issue with burning depts isn't so much the turns as it is the many narrow corridors where it is just too easy to be a jerk with items. This is why I said it only really worked on boost race and that's debatable. The other tracks have narrow spaces as well but they don't last for nearly as long as burning depts' corridors. It also gets pretty crowded if you end up in the van which I've noticed can even get weirdly glitchy.
My idea of a good game is a fun game, if your idea of improving a kart racer is to basically make it either mostly or entirely skill-based in multiplayer then you're missing the point of kart racers.
Wasn't ASR a lot more inclusive toward everyone than ASRT in terms of multiplayer matchups?
Probably the best way to do that in the next game is to just give people a bunch of tickboxes for what features to have and what to disable, and maybe throw in a few presets for casual, competitive, or ridiculous. It would accommodate both groups of people to some degree.
Honest question: Do you actually yell at your friends or whoever you're playing with if they happen to pull a cheap trick like using a blowfish as soon as they get it and messing you up?
RoA immediatly jumps into a tricky track right from the get go, having weapons right at the start means that players will be slowed down, allowing for players to get past without everyone going X way and all getting bumped off.
Agreed on sunshine tour :/ That track is rather boring IMO, there's just not a whole lot to do. Maybe it's because it's the first track in the game? But that doesn't explain it being weirdly one of the hardest tracks on S class.
I also guess I can't get so upset about burning depths having narrow spaces since there are so many of those in seasonal shrine and I actually love that track, probably because it's so great for drifting and really easy to go fast in.
Race of Ages is kind of a neat track although its boat section is just not fun - the track itself demands fast characters but fast characters don't do too well in water and even characters with a lot of handling are difficult to control in that area's water. I have also been 180'd by a wave in that area before and for the life of me I cannot explain why.
Well you kind of made it sound like people pull cheat tricks by using items as soon as they get them and saying people needed a cooldown between getting items and being able to use them so I'm not sure what else I was supposed to get from that besides you get mad over it.
I don't dislike that the game requires some practice to play, actually I find it's one of the only games I'm any good at and like I could actually track my progress from sliding everywhere in sunshine tour to being able to beat an online match with 2 friends in S class (that might've admittedly been a fluke though...) but I also really like the idea that a kart racer is basically as much about improvision as it is about skill because it would be really boring if it just came down to that. New players wouldn't have a chance of catching up to me in a race (what the hell is the fun in being a lap ahead of everyone else? I don't have anyone to shoot at D:) and people with twice the hours in the game as me would be too far ahead of me to catch and that would just make me really OCD about every mistake that I made instead of just being able to deal with things as they came which is much more enjoyable to me.
Incidentally, having to be OCD about every mistake that you make is exactly why I dislike traffic attack. Other modes like Ring Race can mandate the same thing though, maybe I just never noticed it because of how much easier they are by comparison (plus you get to fly the whole time, which is great.)
I mean, I've been hit by 3 blowfish in a row in an S-class match and still came in second place before (which means losing I guess but still), I really like how you can always make up for your mistakes in these kinds of games, and also the general random factor about them. I could never get into games like GT specifically because they lack this factor.
Side-note: I would love it if, in the next game, they made more flying levels or sections like dream valley. I really like how you can aim for the rings and get a boost (which is a great reference also) and how there's just generally so much going on than just floating in empty space waiting for an item box or a boost ring to show up so you can actually have something to do. Maybe they should take some ideas from SkyDrift.
EDIT : You can even get lag bumped out of bounds and fall forever untill someone gets to lap two or the game finds you went way to far down on the z axis, the map is really high up so you are going to be there for a long time.
