Fix for Nvida GPU Water Section Crash?
Is there currently any known fix for the water section crash that occurs when using Nvidia GPUs?

I'm running into the issue on my new PC, and in the 5 hours I've been playing the game, I've experienced the crash randomly at least 8 times. The issue i'm referring to is when the screen will freeze occasionally on water sections, while all the game sound effects can still be heard in the background. It's at this point the game needs to be force closed and reopened. The issue still persists even on the lowest graphics settings.

After looking around, I've seen others with Nvidia GTX and RTX GPUs encounter the same issue, and others who say the issue didn't occur with their other graphics cards. Considering I have a Geforce RTX 2600 Super, that seems to be my issue for this game. However, while I've seen many people say that this is the issue, I haven't seen a fix for it yet anywhere in the forums.

Would anyone happen to know a fix for this? This is one of my favorite racing games, and I'm hoping to get this sorted out before I introduce my friends to it for some online fun.

Update: I now have another issue where the game has started to slightly stutter during gameplay. It's mainly noticeable in the sound effects, as they repeat for a split second during the stutter. It started whenever I unlocked the 6th world tour location and started playing on mirror tracks if that's relevant. Restarting my computer fixes the issue until about 30 seconds into my first race, then the issue persists until a second restart.

I just tried reinstalling my driver update I downloaded before this issue started, but that did not fix the issue.

Yeah I have a RTX 2060. When it does crash if you hit the windows button the game will exit out to windows and come to life in the background. I then hit pause real quick (on controller) and enter back in the game through the game icon in the task bar. But this is far from ideal.

Pressing alt-tab or win key to minimize it and then maximize it again will work 70% of the time, the remaining 30% it will just maximize to a frozen game. Anyone know when this started? because i'm pretty sure that it didn't have this problem a couple of years back.

Open the game folder, Right click on ASN_App_PcDx9_Final choose properties, click on compatibility, mark the box run this game on compatibility mode, set it to Windows Xp (Service pack 3) click ok. This fixed my lag problems on water sections, I have a Nvidia too.

I limited my frame rate for the game in Nvida Control Panal to 58 fps and ran 2 grand prix one which had crashed previously and one which I could not remember if it had crashed on. i experienced no crashes but can't promise this will work long term and it was just luck. I also set anisotropic to 16X;
Antialiasing FXAA to ON;
texture Filter - Quality to high;

Anisotropic and texture make it look pretty and it crashed previously on I left it on.
FXAA i read in the pinned help is the shipped antialiasing software which Nvida disables?

In short just try limiting the framerate. 58 fps was default. Let me know if this works and if you can turn it up and it doesn't crash.

I'm gonna try out NeonDrares and Ruggs fixes for a few days and see if it works out, i then will post back here with my results.

Edit: After testing both fixes my result were negative, neither capping the frame rate or setting compatibility to XP worked.

For stutter make sure to be running at 60fps, and for the crash there used to be a hotfix driver to fix it.

Win10, i5 9600K, 32G RAM, RTX 2070
I've tried all the compatibility modes, limiting the framerate (58, 59 ,60), run as admin. Game still crashes after several races in water sections.

Ok folks I have between 5 and 10 gp's with no crashes, these are the settings I use. Hope it helps. i have a fairly new laptop early 2020. I'm rubbish with computers so I'm not entirely sure how I worked this out.
Please note the frame limiter appears to be no longer in my options so I guess it is not being applied.
Firstly I managed to hit configure at game start up and bump resolution to max 1900 something

The rest of these settings are right click your desktop and select Nvida control Panel. Be in manage 3D settings and look for a tab which says Program settings (next to global settings), select this and good luck for me sonic comes up. The settings in this are as follows:
High performance Nvida processor (under option 2)

option 3 shows (note some of these are selected by the FXAA option-hit that first):

Antisotropic filtering 16X
Antiliasing FXAA ON
Texture Filtering Anisotropic sample optimi... - OFF
Texture Filtering - Negative COD bias - CLAMP
Texture Filtering - Quality - HIGH QUALITY
Testure Filtering - Trilinear optimisation - ON

NOTE = No frame limiting exist.... on this update. I got it wrong or something.
Please let me know, I want to try and help but I'm very bad with computers.

NOte: 360 controller stop working with game so now looking to solve this.

Hey all, sorry for the late reply. I took a break from playing this game for a bit, and after coming back to it, all of my issues seem to be fixed? I'm not sure why, I haven't even had a graphics card or windows update in that time period.

I will return to this thread to inform you all if I come across any more issues.

Best of luck!

Do you ever Alt+Tab in and out of the game? The game uses Windows XP level DirectX9 functionality which means certain resources get destroyed when the game goes out of focus and minimizes. The game sometimes doesn't always restore these resources correctly, tries to access destroyed resources, or does something similar when losing focus, which for me is particularly during loading screens.

I have a rtx 2070 super. Win10.
Start the Game launcher and activate "windowed/fullscreen" instead of "Fullscreen" in the Display Options. I had no crashes since then.
