The game was designed around a control pad layout, wheel support is not featured. It may be possible to get your wheel working with the game, but the experience would be subpar, compared to playing with a control pad.
XBOX controllers are the most supported controller by Steam based games, straight out of the box. I recommend XBOX 360 controllers, as the newer XBOX One controllers still have some driver issues with some games on PC, especially if you have other controllers plugged in.
