Do you have to play Silent Hill 1 first?

To understand the idea of the second, I love this is a remake so I can actually have some fun with nice graphics... can I skip one?

SH2 is it's own story so you can enjoy it on it's own :)

SH1 is connected to SH3 , like the user above I recommend all 3. Though the graphics are quite dated in the first game now. SH3 actually has aged pretty well graphics wise imo

Almost all parts of Silent Hill are standalone and don't depend on each other. There are minor references in the plot, like Easter eggs, but nothing more. The only part that is a direct sequel to Silent Hill 1 is Silent Hill 3.
