I don't interact with those who presume to speak for me and others.
1. see if any interest in the series remain (obviously yes but you know konami)
2. to make it easier to get ahold of (original copies of sh2 are upwards of $150 plus for ps2 and the pc port is hard to get your hands on and working, sh3 is $90 plus as well and has similar issues, SH1 is the easiest and cheapest to get ahold of but its a ps1 era game and thats a hard sell for some)
the point is a fresh coat of paint and to make it easier to get the experience of SH2 a beloved game. As someone who became a fan later in my life (around 2012) i only managed to play SH3 and grew attatched because of this. im happy to play SH2 and see it get such a faithful and true remake that is ironically still somehow cheaper than the ps2 copies
No one that that loved the original SH2 wanted a watered down remake with modern RE combat tacked on to it.
Let's not pretend you'd have a pfp, let alone pay for merch, for remake Angela's face lol
Konami wants to make money (obviously) by banking on the cult status of the original game by appealing to long time fans who've gone a very long time without any meaningful SH content. Konami also wishes to re-invigorate interest in the franchise in a post RE2 Remake world.
The original game, while it is beloved, is only available to Xbox players via the HD collection which is backwards-compatible on Series consoles. Not ideal for the large majority of gamers if they wished to revisit (or experience for the first time) the original SH2.
The gaming market has grown to gargantuan proportions since 2001. There are tens of millions of players (some of whom weren't even alive in 2001) who are experiencing SH for the first time with this release. Obviously, capitalising on the much bigger market these days would necessitate a "modern" style of game, which the original is no longer.
Bloober Team felt very passionately about the project and successfully pitched the remake to Konami when they came knocking for collaboration (speculation).
