Steam API init failed. What does this mean?
When I click play for the game, it starts up then it says: Steam API init failed. Being a noob at computers, I don't know how to fix this. Anyone out there to help?

If your problem continues all you have to do is end the steam application and anything associated with it. Right click and run steam with administrative privileges and voila! Have fun gaming!

i have the same problem when i click play war z it starts but a message opens saing init steam api error and the game is an mmo so i can start the game but cant connect to the server! plz plz plz help

cale i tried your answer and didnt work but i just went to my computer shortcut and then found my steam and opened it from there and it worked

After not flying X-plane for some days I today get this error - with no way to get around it (even when running Steam 'As Administrator').
I have tried lots of times - waited hours and tried again. Still no luck.
Does this happen to many of us these days?

Its been a while since i've encountered problems of any sort but if memory is serving me correctly. If admin access does not work, i believe you could always run steam, or the game alone, in a different compatibility mode and see if that would work. Can't think of anything else that might help with the solution off of the top of my head beside the obvious of uninstalling the game/steam, restarting comp, and then installing it all back in again. I fixed it in Windows OS by rolling back to a previous version of my graphics driver. And then in Steam I clicked on verify my game's files.
