Unpacking Assets on a Mac.
Anyone know how to unpack Assets on a Mac? I wanna make some custom clothes/weapons and I can't seem to do it. I've tried dragging the asset unpacker, then the packed assets, then a target directory into Termnal but it just says 'if the target directory doesn't exist it will be created'.
If anyone could post a video tutorial or something in here that'd be great, since the Web doesn't seem to have any helpful videos.

man, mac sucks sometimes :(

this is one reason why mac sucks.
not apples fault. blame the popularity of windows.

OH! get a friend (who also has starbound) that has a PC instead of mac, to unpack the folders for you. put em on a flash drive, then put em on your mac. then delete the files off the flash drive.

and DO NOT upload the files anywhere. transfer 'em via flash drive. otherwise...thats illegal.

i doubt flash drive transfers are illegal so long as both of you own the game...but check just to be sure.

Ha. I'd do that, but all of my friends own Mac computers D:

Solution:

Get PC.
Oh and this isn't a troll or a joke, it's a legitimate solution that will work and is the only real way to make it work.

I can't get a PC, I have to have a Mac. Y'know, for school and stuff.

Dude ignore the mac trolls. Mac lacks in gpu yes but other than that its a class machine. I know i would never go back to windows. Anyway i can help you. Do you have the game installed to macs internal hard drive? If so, try this -

1. Open terminal
2. type cd /Users/yourusername/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Starbound (replace "yourusername")
3. Press Enter
4. type mkdir ./assets/Unpacked
5. Press Enter
6. type ./osx/asset_unpacker.sh ../assets/packed.pak ../assets/Unpacked
7. press enter

Assets will begin unpacking. It will take quite a long time so be patient. Once they have finished unpacking you will find a unpacked folder with all the assets in the same directory as the packed.pak file. :)

Thanks! I'll try this when I get home from school.

Thanks for creating this discussion. I look everywhere and I still can't find a guide that works.

And for the record, PC's may have superior gaming power, but at least Mac Users aren't arrogant snobs who believe that all other computers are inferior.

I tried this and it kept saying (in relation to any parts with packed or unpacked files) "No such file or directory", if ye have any solutions plase let me know.

this is what i’ve been doing

Get to your asset packer and unpacker in your steam’s starbound osx folder.
Open a terminal window and drag and drop the packer or unpacker onto the terminal window.
Then drag and drop your .pak file onto that same window twice.
And on the second line delete .pak at the end and hit enter.
And you’ll have a folder that you can repack by the same methods that you used with the unpacker on the packer and if you packed everything well, starbound should launch.
Just remember to delete the space before you add .pak as well as the folder name when unpacking. And do back up your storage folder and everything with your saves.

/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Starbound/osx

also, search on google or whatever search engine you prefer if this doesn’t make sense.

Not sure why you guys bumped an old thread.
I suggest coming to the main forums.

http://community.playstarbound.com/forums/starbound-modding.111/

The modding community is far more active there.
Actually considering from the number alerts I have been getting on there. It is more active now than it has been before.
