Madness Immunity in Frackin Universe?

So, I've been trying to get madness for a while, to get started on metaphysics, but no matter what I try, I don't seem to gain any. I'm playing a novakid, and sometimes I see a thing that says I'm immune. Any tips?

Check your resistances via tricorder and see if you have armor or augment equipped with that effect.

Madness is a currency/counter. As far as I can figure, it's only visible on the research page (opened from your tricorder). You will slowly lose madness you gain; it doesn't store well.

Note that madness (the currency you need for mad science) and insanity are different things. I often get insanity immunity, but have never seen madness immunity items.

To check that madness is working, I'd recommend using a consumable with a madness gain, maybe one of the nasty cannibal things the Floran in Science Outpost sells. Consume it, and then check your research page.
