Good ways to get Solar Panel energy? (FU)

I know some basic things about solar panels from Frackin' Universe (I'm pretty new to the mod). I know that they work better with more light (obviously) and that they work better if they're at a higher altitude in the world. I've also heard from a few places that they can work with just a few player-placed light sources near them, but I've been unable to get that to happen; all I've done is get one unit of power per solar panel with ship lights and other lights placed near them. The wiki says a solar panel can make a max of 12 units of power in optimal conditions, so does that only mean natrually sunny noon-day at the top of the world? Or can that happen with player-placed lights? Hopefully I can at least get more than one unit of power from a solar panel surrounded by light sources.

Solar panels have been fixed in one of the last updates to require sun light - they will no longer work from artificial light sources.

Putting the water from a well or pump into an alternator is a good alternative.
