Hosting server and playing on same PC?
I've been trying to setup my own private server for a few friends and myself to use, but am unable to actually play Starbound myself.

When I launch the dedicated server I am unable to open Starbound, when I try to launch Starbound it just focuses on the server command-line window rather than open the game.

Yeah I have the same issue, as long as the dedicated server window is running I can't start the game up cause the Server counts as me already running the game

guys, you can start the game up from the steam folder. just make sure you start the correct executable for your operating system, it has each of them in a seperate folder i belive.

also, you guys know how to port forward or get your IP, right?

(I do this myself. it works.)

I understand port forwarding and all that jargon, i've hosted in the past, the problem isn't connecting it's getting both windows to appear simultaneously.

Not sure the guys that answered you read the question. When you launch the game in steam and select "Dedicated Server" it will start up the server and close the launch window, however if you then try to launch it again to play the game it will tell you that Starbound is already running.

Go into your steam folder: whatever\steamapps\common\Starbound\win64

Launch: starbound_server.exe

Then Launch: starbound.exe

This will let you run two instances at the same time. If you are connecting to yourself you can enter you actual IP address but it is easier to use the loopback. 127.0.0.1
