How to invite friends or use Steam Multiplayer?

I just started the game, and gifted it to four friends I wanted to play all of it through with! Though, it doesn't seem to work when I invite them. Do I have to get past the intro or something? I'm really quite confused, and would appreciate some help.

alright so i don't know how to use the whole "steam multiplayer" thing, but if you use hamachi it should work out fine. If you don't know how to use hamachi, basically just set up everyone with hamachi, (get everyone to download it, easiest way is here https://www.vpn.net/ ) make a server and get everyone to connect to it, there's more indepth tutorials if you google for how to do that (it's the click of a button and enter a user/pass thing)

Once you have the hamachi server set up, you're halfway there. You then need to find your IP, which is on the little hamachi GUI thing. It'll always start with 25.something.whatever.blah
once you have that you need to open starbound, the HOST will join a singleplayer world, then everyone else will connect with multiplayer and the host's IP into the multiplayer join thing.

No need for Hamachi.
Load your game, tick the box saying Steam Friend can join (Default)
Start your game, he can join through Steam but both have to play the intro bit before you get to your ship(s). You can then go to tthe surface but you'll be in different areas, however from a ship after death or at start you can teleport to your friend(s).

how do i join my friends i have no idea I NEED HELP

Open your friend's list on Steam If they are playing it, click on the arrow near thier name and click join game. the game will open up and join thier game.

when i try clicking on the join game button nothing happens ;-;

After you press the join button it opens your character list. You then have to pick your char and instead of getting the "server name, ip, etc" window you will directly connected to your friends game.

This isn't the case for me. Only option is invite to watch
