Is Starbound really that good?
I ask it because I entered in Steam statistics and found out that Starbound is in the Top 10 most played games in Steam.

Well The best way to answer that question is not by asking the community, but rather you should do your own research and check out the web or just watch youtube videos about there are a ♥♥♥♥ ton. The Game is in BETA, and you should never buy unfinished products unless you know the risks.

Its in the top ten most played games currently because its been over hyped by the community.
Weirdly enough I never heard of Starbound until it went on Steam.
You would know about it if you follow the indie stuff as much as i do, this is coming from someone enjoy indie more than "AAA" games these days..

Starbound's marketing is pretty much non-existant, most of the people wouldn't have heard of it pre-steam release due to the only marketing being word to mouth.
It would probably have less than half its player base If it weren't for twitch/youtube or the flashy banner in the steam store page.

Praise the game as it is, I do, but the PR-departments is severely lacking.

I played 50 hours of Starbound, it's insane how much possibilities there are to make items, find different biomes & atmospheres on thousands of planets, thousands of different groundtypes (sand, grass, wooden blocks, metal blocks, magmarock, all that stuff) therefor you can make the coolest city for yourself. Having a giant treehouse with underground chambers, making them into labs or something. Making a spaceship next to your house, making an asteroid base, everything linked to eachother. I love it while I didn't like Minecraft or Terraria, so it's a big surprise for me. :)

You can find dungeons, underground futuristic temples, old temples, prisons in the jungle/forest, villages from race 'X' or 'Y' where you can buy stuff or kill them and steal their furniture, there are underground secret labs and tons of other buildings/dungeons to get items.

All that combined with the fact that it's more than just what minecraft or terraria is, it's also a RPG with some important RPG features like quests & bosses.

Chucklefish did a great job creating Starbound, that only for €14. I even am sad that I bought the 14 EUR version after seeing this site: http://playstarbound.com/store/ Would've payed the Diamond package to support them even more because they deserve it.

Its in the top ten most played games currently because its been over hyped by the community. Is it worth calling one of the top ten games on PC currently? I'd say maybe top 25, if we're talking in general. As for action-sandbox games, top 2. Really, it all comes down to preference, though, which is why I give so much "space". Some people are going to prefer Minecraft, for example, because its not 2D. Others will prefer CoD because it's not a sandbox game.

Personally, I'd say it beats MC and Terraria for me atm, but I might just brush it away for a while until its gotten a few more updates. But hell, I've gotten more then my money's worth by a longshot.

Naw. It's in the top ten most played because Terraria was a massive success, and people looking for something similar to it have Starbound as an option: newer, with better animations and art, more items, races, etc. It's still in Beta but I already prefer it over Terraria.

its amazing the best game ever!!
IF
1. YOU MIND THE BUGS AND CHARACTER WIPES
2 YOU LIKED TERRARIA BUT WANTED MORE
3YOU REALISE ITS EARLY BETA AND things are LIABLE TO BREAK AT ANYTIME

if you can handle all that its awesome
if you cant handle all that then you will just pos t hatemonger threads like other uniformed idiots who didnt pat attention to what they were buying

For me , it is just awesome , no other words <3

you do know that starbound made over 1.2million dollars on pre-orders on there website on the first week right?
but your right the PR is a bit lacking. However it does have the best kind of PR, Its Community (I'm not talking about the steam forums here)

I personally enjoy it quite a bit, been playing around 60 hours since the beta got out.

Currently I got the best crafted set of armor and weapons though :V

I think u all r missing one good point though. And tell me if I'm the only one w/ this opinion. But it is in mega nuclear ultimate beta stage to the point where half the game isn't even there! Basicaly they did the planets which yes is a good 10% of the game and the monsters which is another 10% and a little crafting, but compared to what this game will be in the future via predictions it is about 25% finished I'd say, and thats without updates! Right now its pretty good but in the future it will be the most classical masterpiece that it deserves to become! Also I predict that it will be really hard to beat. Unlike now where people seem to be beating it and thinking oh gee is that the end I got ripped off! Anyways thats my predictions and I hope they come true and with that in mind u might as well buy it now since ur just going to buy it later anyways! :csgoa:

The lack of features, dimensions and what else not in games like minecraft are the reason why i like this much more ! Ive only played 8 Hours on our Stream but its hell of fun if you have no problem finding yourself in 2D Retro, Beta Sandbox Game =P I normally play all the latest Titles that are released but i think i stick to that game for a while instead of CoD,BF4,AC4 and so on... I would recommend it for its Lan and Multiplayer Part (AND THE NICE SCIENCE FICITON; HELL YEAH FINALLY!).
