I just tried this and it breaks the files more than it converts them, If it loads them at all (Half the Midi files I tried break under this.. Won't even load them.)

If you happen to have a MIDI file, or something that creates them, you can use this to convert them to ABC format: https://code.google.com/p/lotromidiplayer/

It seems to work well, although it may mess songs up since it was made for that specific game. The above program likely works better.

That points to Maestro which also breaks the files. Sadly I'm beginning to think we might need to wait till the devs are a bit mroe open about how their particular ABC format works (And even which instruments are assigned to which numbers, That would help a lot.)
There really needs to be an easier way. I just tried to play a song with my friend and at first we both ended up playing the "Vocal" part, even though he was on a base guitar. No matter which instrument we switched to, we both ended up playing the same "track". I think maybe all instruments play #1. Possible that they havent implemented it properly yet (After all, standing around in a space ship and playing music is probably their lowest priority right now)

They also haven't implemented freely playing instruments even though it is a confirmed feature on the wiki. I'd imagine there's some tick syncing to work out for people playing over servers.

Wonder why EasyABC never came up in my google searches. I'll have to try that.

I'm curious if anyone has had any success with making .abc files in a tracker like OpenMPT? It's just a curiosuty of mine after talking to someone I know about possible ways to compose for the format.

Note to people considering EasyABC. DON'T!
I have about 10 spywares that got installed with it. Now anytime I click ANY links in a browser I get 4 popup ad windows as well. Even results in GOOGLE clicked on.

Looks like I'll be spending all morning dealing with malware again. Thanks, I really appreciate it. :/

Didnt get anything like that from EasyABC and I've been using it all day
LotRO Midi Player is def my choice. It does not break songs. ABC files have a set sound range they can meet and if you go too high or too low, they will not play that note. Just lower or raise the transpose until it works. I also suggest taking out the bass tracks and drums. I used to use this program in Lord Of The Rings Online and think its a brilliant piece of software for Midi to ABC conversion.
From spending all my time using EasyABC and Maestro, I've learned that neither of them really "break" the songs so much as Starbound breaks the .abc files. I've read the current state and bugs of Starbound's .abc file handling and reading and it's far from perfect (Though I assume they will fix it)

This is a general list of bugs, things to avoid, and how to make your songs work around the bugs.

Also, this helped me learn a bit about how Starbound handles .abc files and how to make your own
