BUG: Screen Flickers/Blinks when left clicking
I've got an odd bug to report, running starbound gives me a lovely 60+ FPS, but whenever I click the screen Flickers/Blinks for a split second and "starbound - Not responding" appears for a split second at the top of the window. If I right click, it works fine, just left click causes the problem.

I've tried running the game in administrator mode, disabling steam overlay, I've tried the Regedit fix, I've tried fiddling with windowed/non windowed and zoom levels, they all don't help.

The only thing I've found that has helped so far is running the Launcher.exe in Windows 8 compatibility mode, only problem is, although this removes the stuttering, my FPS goes down to 10-12 (I found the prison and it was like watching a slide show)

My Laptop:
Win 8.1
8GB DDR3 Ram
3.3Ghz I7
Nvidia Geforce GT 640M (2G:cool:

I'm running latest drivers and windows fully updated, Anyone have any ideas? I've been looking forward to playing starbound for so many months and now its finally arrived I can't get at it. Would really appreciate any help anyone can give, Virtual internet cookies for anyone who has anything to offer.

This thread is a over a year and a half old. I suspect that the original poster figured out his problem some time ago.

Or he gave up on ever having it fixed. Sure, the post is old, but even when playing using OpenGL some of us are still having this issue even as I am posting this comment. It needs fixing.

Well I did manage to fix screen flickering...I think. That was only after trying a ton of different stuff that I hoped might work. In the end I had to run a scan for viruses on my computer....twice. One to look in root files (came up empty but you can never be too careful) and one full scan. Found I'd somehow managed to pick up a virus and once it was dealt with the screen stopped flickering whenever I clicked. However, the controls will stick occassionally, which is easy enough to deal with. It still shows the "not responding" message some too when in windowed mode. I have no idea how to deal with that. I want to say that's with the game now.

I have this exact same problem, it makes the game unplayable and it worries me that this thread is soooo old and no fix yet.

It's possible some of it is a virus or you installed your graphics driver improperly. It might not be. I'm no expert. I went ahead and had to fix some like that to get the flickering to stop. The controls sticking is just a matter of pushing the same control again. I just do that every time they stick. That's not to say it isn't annoying but....it's something.

Drivers are up to date and no virus'

been driving me nuts, I am hoping to get this issue fixed before 1.0 but at this rate I do not have much hope.

I'd hope so too. But at this point it's an incredibly weird and tricky bug that only seems to affect some of the people who play while others are fine. That's probably why it's not yet been fixed to date.

This is a way to fix it. I had the same problem with minecraft, etc.

I actually fixed this problem, I say I fixed it....there was a huge windows 10 update which fixed all of my problems including the screen flickering on Starbound.

Has anyone come up with a definitive, proven fix yet?
Huxley Apr 7, 2016 @ 4:19pm
I don't know much about the inner workings of pc's and windows but it may be worth doing some googling into what exactly the Huge windows 10 update actually did because it 100% fixed the problem.

Not that I've heard of. Has to be a Windows 10 thing
