Pixel Bank
Being able to store the pixels somewhere, perhaps on the ship, would be cool. Maybe to help loss of so many if and when death occurs.

You can build an Pixel Compressor to store your Pixel as Voxel.
Keep in mind you lose a percentage of the pixel investment when making it into storable form. Great for large quantity storage, not so much if you don't have a lot of pixel to begin with.

Also only allows in 1k, 2k, 5k, and i think 10k forms.

Good to know. Thanks.

i would want that too. i have not yet gotten the compressor though, so i have yet to form a "final" opinion on the matter.

I think it would still be nice to have a way of banking the pixels without the loss. I used to store my money on Terraria in a chest or piggy bank just in case.

the problem with the Pixel Compressor is that you lose 40% of the pixels upon compression, while with death you're supposed to only lose 20% (current calculations put the percentage around 30%), so unless you die alot, it's just not worth it. I really hope they change this.

The loss of pixels is the only real penalty for death besides mild inconvenience, so I'm not sure the devs really want you to have a way to avoid it completely.

The compressor is more useful for transferring pixels between players than for storage.

they raised the percent per death back to 30% wen the added the compressor

i assume there will be different modes/difficulties you can set when creating a character, such as loosing all equipment upon death (or even perma-death). if you play at a setting where you loose everything on death, the compressor is starting to look like a very attractive option (a 40% loss instead of 100% loss).
regardless, after playing a while in just sector A i'm starting to feel pixels will be VERY abundant as you go, so the loss for compressing may not be such a bad thing in the long run, to keep the economy in check so to speak.

The 40% loss is not that much they changed the loss per death back to 30% this means dying twice will cost you 41%
VolOpt Dec 13, 2013 @ 5:04pm
To me charging anything to go out of your way to store your pixels seems somewhat off. Especially when its costing you two deaths worth of pixels to prevent the loss of your pixels if you should happen to die.

Its like they are trying to fix a problem with the pixel/currency system while simultaniously attempting to maintain the status quo.

The certs are supposed to be valuable. You are supposed to want to keep them so theres more incentive to not die.
How can i use compressed pixels back? What must i do?

You need to make a refinery and then use taht to uncompress them (it also makes ores into pixels)

Your maths is flawed:

You start with 100 pixels and die once - loss is 30% or 30 pixels.

You now have 70 and die again - you lose another 30% or 21 pixels.

After 2 deaths you have lost 51 of your starting 100 meaning 2 deaths in a row would lead to losing 51% of your pixels.

Pixel compressor is very handy if you are holding a ton of pixels and about to try something that could easily lead to a few deaths, its not cheap but those pixels are now untouchable and will remain that way until refined back.
