Stuck on a planet with low coal
I'm not sure what to do. The planet I'm on doesn't have enough coal to even replenish my torches, so I can't go digging to find more coal, and I'm never finding enough to power my ship.

If worse comes to worse, harvest your Ship Lights x3 to use in the tunnels. Place the light, mine a bit, harvest the light back. Rinse and Repeat as needed.
I like this idea. This is always an option. Unless you lose them.
I also like that idea.

You can join a multiplayer server and look for coal on there or ask for coal.

Oh internet, can I trade all the trolls for pretty women please? No ♥♥♥♥ douche. Not very effecient though is it.
My apologies, I didn't mean to ruffle your Avian feathers. But I guess if you have a giant cluster, then it might be a bit annoying to mine blindly. Although...

From expereince, it can be a pain in the ass to try and get back to where you did place them last, should you die of creature , hunger, or drowning. Before you do use them, you can sacrifice one light to the 3D printer and make more.

Coal seems very uncommon on my worlds.
So far its been easy gathering the iron to platinum but coal? NOPE.

Maybe a cluster of 3~8 every 20 minutes and traveling goes slow.. so very very slow.
Tbh i'm disappointed they removed the wood as a fuel. I mean i get why they removed it but can't we atleast have a 10:1 ratio or something for the small jumps?

Maybe, just maybe, if we're lucky, the reason they removed it is because they're working on a way to turn wood into charcoal? Or if they decide to be particularly lazy, wood into coal.

Of course, that doesn't change the situation we've got right now.

I would have to agree that currently, there should be a bit more coal

I tend to find far more Gold/Titanium/Silver than i do coal after roaming on 4 different planets.

When you find more of those ores than you do coal, it is not unreasonable to request there be more available in general.

you can always add wood as a fuel again via modding i know less than ideal solution but it works

the ones telling the guy to only use one torch or similar methods are all wrong, THERE IS VERY LITTLE COAL and even though it is possible ti mine moving a single torch or using a flashlight ITS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ANNOYING AND BORING so it beats the original purpose of this game, which is to have fun, i have plenty of torches and when i dig i recover them whenever i can and i've noticed that it takes a lot of time that otherwise would be used in things which are in fact fun, besides the manipulator tool works as a very slow long range pickaxe if it could actually move things around it would be another story, my conclusion is: IT IS POSSIBLE TO MINE WITH ONLY ONE TORCH and or JUST THE FLASHLIGHT, BUT ITS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BORING AND ANNOYING, so, stop the fundamentalist defense of the game pls...

I had to use 200 coal to get to a new planet, worst starting world ever.

You need 100 coal to make 200 fuel. Also I think I have seen somewhere that you cn now craft coal with wood and something. As for myself I didnt seem to have hard time finding coal, but its all random so it can happen to just start on a planet with few coal seen at the surface.

I'd like to point out, before the patch that removed the use of wood as fuel, I only thought coal was fuel. I was VERY easily able to fuly fill up my ships fuel on ALL FOUR or my characters, using only coal, with hundreds left over. One of those characters planets had very little coal, absolutly none on the surface. I was still able to get out of the planet using resourses I found around the world. You can easily mine with ONE torch, or campfire. Even if you had litterally no torches, just dig down untill you run into areas that have glowing spikes that give you pixels, those areas are generally more open, and one torch lights up a bigger space. Another technique would be to dig down untill you find a giant patch of sand, then dig around to get underneath it, and set it off to start falling, andy ores or coal inside the sand, will turn to items you can pick up. I've litterally picked up over 50 coal in less than a second using that method.

Something that sounded like an angry rant.

I'm not sure what to do.
People are just giving him his options. Besides, apparently the game will have a lantern-backpack in the next update. Its no perfect solution either, since you have to find one, but it certainly will be helpful for people having these issues. And more importantly, it doesn't solve the now-problem.

LOL yep. I hated it. I dug down far enough to where i needed to start putting down the wood planks ... then i was like F this S.. I'm out.

I too like the idea of converting raw wood into coal (or maybe charcoal, which wouldn't produce as much fuel as coal).
