alpha or bata/ the definition of beta?

i kinda wanted to continue the discussion of whether this game is rely in alpha or bata, it was in the (is this game dead ?) thread near the bottem
just start at Jordan (Tyhiyo) post and go down until izzabella's post
im vary interrested in what you gut think so post away or atleas untill izzabela says it in bata and locks the post

andd by the basic definition, its hard to say, we dont know if more content is on the way or if they are gonna smash bugs, but the diff between current stable branch and the unstable is Stable= Alpha, Unstable = Beta.

could be wrong though if they have more content planned. and thats going by the official common defitions.

but any dev can use versioning terms to their own discretion. meaning in their eyes, we've been in beta since we got a playable version. most of us do not see it that way though since the 2 versions stable (current) and unstable (current) differ vastly.

Well, a beta is feature complete and meant to be in it's last stages of testing (usually bug fixing and balancing, and the addition of things like items and biomes and what not (things that aren't core features/mechanics). Starbound is clearly NOT feature complete with new mechanics talked about somewhat frequently and progression systems not being in yet. This game is definitely an alpha at the moment.

progression is in through the questing system atm. whether its concrete or not is debateable.
