Where the heck is copper
So, on my first planet, i currently have like 500 iron, but haven't found any copper yet. This kinda makes it difficult for the quests to help me learn the game.

It's deeper than coal, keep looking.

I did dig quite deep. I even hit some silver. If the quest tells me to get copper first, I would assume it was easier to find than iron or silver, at least all other games rank copper below iron and silver.

I found it easiest to simply pick a spot and dig straight down until I found a deep cavern. Once you hit the all cobblestone layer just start looking for looking for natural caverns. It's easier to pick to find ore in the walls than it is to find ore in cramped little tunnels that you have to slowly dig for yourself. The deeper you go the more you find of a given planet's ores, by the way, and some ores will only spawn below a certain depth. This holds especially true of later, harder planets. More risk/work, more reward.

To give some general idea of a good depth to explore, I'd say dig at least 250 blocks down. If you hit brown, grainy cobblestone, stalactites and lava then you've gone too far. You'll still find stuff down there, of course (like core fragments and possibly a diamond or two), but the terrain is far more dangerous due to lots of large falls and the aforementioned pools & lakes of lava.
