Also, you can use soaps for more than just washing your body. Keeping clean would be helpful to them anyways.
They have robotic trees too.
Look, I don't know where your obsession lies, be it Starbound or pigs, but you're just not going to make sense out of this one. No matter what, a robotic version of whatever pet they give the glitch race makes more sense than an organic, flesh and blood version. That's just all there is to it.
That said, if Chucklefish were to outright say they engineer all their materials (and reflect it in-game, even), I wouldn't mind.
I'm not clear on what you mean by that but the Glitch race didn't create the robotic trees, food and animals. Something else did when they made the Glitch race. It was part of a big mysterious experiment by some unknown force. All other robotic races involved in this experiment evolved to the point of their own destruction. The only reason the Glitch race survived is because of a glitch in their programming that prevented them from evolving beyond the medieval period. Which is where the name, "Glitch" and their use of castles, armor, swords and other old world what-nots originates. So you see, their 'need' for organic, flesh and blood anything is minimal if existant at all, and a robotic pet is still way more fitting.
Something i'm a bit confused about: if their resources (trees, animals, etc.) are to be indefinitely used, wouldn't they need to be sustainable, thus "growable" in a sense? Apparently their food is (mostly) edible by other races. Perhaps similar is true for organics for the Glitch.
They also build more of their kind, so maybe it's possible they just modify their produce, and create other robotic creatures (or turn them into cyborgs...)
I'm starting to get curious about this; I don't think the devs check out the Steam forums, so maybe they could shed some light on this topic if it were posted in the Chucklefish forums?
There are a LOT of inconsistencies in the specifics of the Glitch race. I found one codex that said Glitch could not reproduce. But then I found another codex told from the perspective of an Apex scientist that gave somewhat specific details about the Glitch "mating habits". So the details are fuzzy at best.
Also CF keeps changing things and that further complicates it. Food, for example, used to be race specific, meaning if a Florian eats some Avian food, they could get sick and lose health, instead of gain it. Obviously that's not how things work now but that was the concept for a while. So how edible Glitch food was intended to be for other races is questionable. Some of the food descriptions still have their vague warnings. For example, current corn says it's very acidic and not for fleshy creatures. And IIRC, stuffed automatos used to say it would break the teeth of anyone who isn't a Glitch. I honestly hope CF puts that mechanic, and hunger in general, back in the game. It added more depth and immersion.
Oh and the robotic plants do grow. You can grow the Glitch crops(which are usually some kind of metal) and if you chop down a robotic tree, you'll get seeds to plant more robotic trees.
He's delicious with gravy
The pet feature is relatively new so hopefully in the future there will be more options, like something robotic for Glitch.
Any additions which make this a reality is welcome.
