What do I do with pixels?

I'm about to do a boss fight (the one after the penguin UFO) and I've got about 10k pixels. I figure I'll die a couple times so I'd like to dump my pixels into something before I do, but I haven't really found anything to spend pixels on. I do a whole mess of mining so I've saved up quite a bit. What should I do with my pixels?

If you hoard decorations like I do, start feeding them to your 3D printer. Most decorative items aside from blocks, organic stuff like plants (though it's taken potted flowers), and some special biome chests should be accepted by the printer. Putting them into the machine will use up pixels (potentially a lot of pixels), and then you can spend more pixels to make duplicates.

If you're not a hoarder and not into decorating, I don't think pixels have any other use.

I can't find the pixel compressor since the update. I can make a refinery to get pixels from ore, but I can't bank pixels to the best of my knowledge.

I was completely unaware that the 3D printer allows you to duplicate vanity items (for a cost). I was able to scan everything of value for 2-3k, and then dumped the rest on duplicating a stack of fashionable lights. Thank you!

I'm too new to know how it was pre-update, but right now I can see a recipe for making the pixel compressor on the "research station" wall computer that appeared after a couple of ship upgrades.

I must not be there yet. I've searched my tech benches and the ship, and neither offer the pixel compressor yet. I'm just about to head to icy planets so we'll see what that unlocks.

You get acces to a new crafting table when you upgrad your ship enough.

After you beat the Robo Boss (2nd boss) you can craft the pixel container but you lose half of the pixels each time you deposit you can decide if its worth it. You do eventually use up a lot of pixels throughout the tiers if I remember right.

The robot boss is not in the winter update.

There are some later tier items that you can craft that will require pixels.

Pixels are also used to purchase items from merchants and vendors.
