It is a released game. Not every game needs a continuous update cycle.

it's on xbox but playing the PC ver you can use mods there are FU mods, adult mods if you know where to look for them and mods in the workshop
There are quite a bevy of mods.
Though 'Questionable' and not necessarily 'Adult' (i draw the line at genitals and visible aereola), Starpounds is amusingly a well put together (and sometimes funny) mod- for a fat-kink mod. (starbound was originally going to have 'fat' player bodytypes (obviously not to the same extent) but it was canned for the sake of not wanting to double the work on armors, it's hard to find but nuggubs documented an archived post of it)

It's not THAT jarring considering the 'fat' parts used by the monster generator and/or two-three of the pre-made monsters.

If you get pass the jank and the AI bugging out at times, then yes. get the game. but on a sale, the mods DO spice the game and can completely transform it.

Even with it's 2D look, this game can be very resource intensive, so keep that in mind.
That depends. If you're expecting Terraria, you'll be disappointed, as Starbound is more about exploration and building, rather than boss fights and gear. If you don't mind then I say go for it.

Why would you get Starbound when you can get Terraria instead?

If you look at the positive reviews, the mongs are recommending it because it's good when modded but trash without. If a game can't stand on its own, it's not a good game.

Mods are ment to elevate games, not support them. People seem to have forgotten that for some reason.

Buy it on "sale" from the somali man with really good prices

It's a 32 bit app created in WinXP. That means that it has a memory leak and a limit to what you can do. I generally like to build big bases. But if you make it too big, then you'll just constantly teleport to your ship when you enter your base.
Plus I use about 150 mods so that doesn't help with the memory issue.

I would still be playing the game, but I can barely hear any sound. And my sound is max out on my pc.

Starbound reminds me of No Man's Sky before it got good. There's not a lot going on here, and most of it is pointless wandering around planets until you've circled them entirely, beam up to your ship, and move on.

Is it worth the price? Not in the slightest. I wouldn't even suggest buying it if it were on sale. There are better options elsewhere.

Mods sadly do not fix things either. So if you're hoping for a game with a modding scene akin to Minecraft or Terraria, you will be disappointed.
At this point we could use a fresh scratch start.
We DO have a solid base here; Starbound is not necessarily about the combat or boss-fights, but the 'two handed' nature of things seems more... intuitive? I'm not sure. I enjoy building in Starbound more than I do Terraria.

I don't know. It's not unsalvagable, but... nobody will be able to agree on the direction to take.

It was a diamond in brute back in the day and it has been left as such, i do hope just like terraria, the devs come back one day to start working on it, but given chucklefish tendencies to make a game and leave it half assed at the peak of it's fame i doubt it, more so given it has now focused on publisher work.

We might have better chance with Kyora which comes from a different developer, despite being published by chuckledfish, but by the looks it's pmuch Terraria and besides the fact that the terrain and building systems are much more elaborate it doesn't offer anything different so it's gona require a lot of work to get any attention

Honestly the only game so far that holds a candle to Terraria and that hasn't been left to rot would be Noita although it's a different game but it's within the scope of it.

At the end of the day it really is a shame Starbound has all the potential and base work to be as much of a great game as Terraria, but sadly it was left as is, if you are interested it's best to get it on sales

The base game is interesting/okay for a very short while, *however* with the incredibly complex and elaborate FU (Frackin' Universe) mod, it becomes something much more elaborate and engrossing. You may be reluctant to play a total overhaul mod right from the get-go, but you should. Frackin' Universe, plus some QOL mods on containers, mech building, station building, teleporter & door overhaul for movement through bases, and custom ship building, and you're in for a fun time. With mods, it becomes a pretty great game. I've played all the way through twice on Frackin' Universe, and I had a lot of fun both times. There's really nothing else out there that combines all the elements of this game, except maybe No Man's Sky, which is *SO* much more, but also so much less on the free-form building front. Anyway, I still love Starbound (w/ Frackin' Universe), and if you can get the game on sale, it's definitely worth at least one play-through. Again, you need mods; the base game, to be clear, is just empty and sad---don't even bother with the base game "story", just install Frackin' Universe and invest the 20 minutes it takes to get your bearings.

If you expect new stuff from games then obviously no, but it is a really cute and fun game and you can have quite some fun with it. Just watch some videos and see if it looks fun for you, if yes then I can fully recommend it ^^. I had a lot of fun in it on my own but its definetly most fun in multiplayer.

I used the word fun way to many times and the editing function dosn't work but whatever. But yea I recommend it ^^. If you have any gameplay questions feel free to dm me, I played it a lot xD.
The game yes is abandoned, but don't forget they are mods. And most important the unofficial updates to Starbound called "OpenStarbound" this last one make perfomances and lots of fixes, and new features to the game.

U gonna have a feeling to see a amazing rework to the game.
