How do you place blocks in the background?

Just bought it and the game doesn't explain the controls that well. Im also wondering if you can start your own town, if so, how?

Right click to make back walls, but it needs to be connected to something or it may not be placed. You might use dirt behind your side (main left-button-placed) walls to have something to connect your visible background blocks to.

you can start a town, it really depends how far in the game you are and the stuff you have to make it. for example you'll find more decor stuff all over and could be searching for hours! you need spawner pods for NPCs, these can be found on planets too in chests.

i suggest you take advantage of the 3D printer on the ship, you lose the item you scan but can make copies of that item all the time but at the cost of pixels

i also suggest looking into a wiki page if you feel stuck as most people on these forums are never helpful and just end up getting into discussions and arguments that are completely off topic
