How To build with just one block at a time,

Hello Starbound fans, i recently purchased this game and coming from terraria i really enjoy it, but i have a few questions, 1). How Deep do i have to go to find iron. 2) how do i build with just one block at a time and not 4??

press shift to change the icon you placing from 4 blocks to 1 - as for iron its relativly pot luck you will find planets with lots of iron and some with non. you will have to find out what ores are best found in what types of system - I cant remember them all but an example is titanium is best found in excentric systems.

Iron will be hard to find on harmless and mostly harmless planets... dig deep and you may find some. Basically, the more dangerous the planet, the better loot and ores... Are you on your first "quest' from your S.A.I.L.? It's gonna ask for core fragments, those are found way down deep... on your way down, you should come across some iron, copper and coal. I suggest starting a mine downwards, it'll get ya started.
