Can you permanently kill your ship pet?

So I believe I did this with lava once, but it instantly respawned next to where it died. I just would like to know, out of unadultered curiosity, if my cat can permanently die?

(Not that I want it dead. But as they say, if I test too much, curiosity killed the cat.)

I've been trying to get rid of the little bas****.. I even downloaded a mod purchasable pets because it was supposed to delete my starter pet (it didn't)

That little f***** always getting in my way is literally the ONLY thing about Starbound I hate.

After you get a few ship upgrades, try to trap it down in a lower floor. The pets can't jump really, but you and crew can.

I would have preferred a dog or even a ferret. Cats are evil and will eventually hijack my ship and fly it into the nearest star just out of spite.

I would just love a mod that lets me tell people/pets to GTFO! I love my little starbunnynovakid thing but DAMN is it annoying.

You can also buy the pet house and food dish and put it in the bottom floor. Pets like to sleep in the house. You can also like make nothing on the bottom floor be anything crew use and make it only a person with jump tech can get up.
