Elevators/Rails
How. Just... How? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, and can't figure out how to get these things to work. I can't even get the elevator to stay on its track half the time! I've tried looking online, but everything's old and outdated, so if there's anyone who would like to help me from square 1, that'd be great.

You mean the kind where you put out your own rail? Place the rails with left click, and put the elevator platform on it with left click too. Make sure the middle part of the platform is on the rail. Try it out on a vertical rail first to get a feel for it. Also, make sure you end the rail with bumpers.
I found out that if you try to interact (E) with the platform when it passes by, it'll fall off the rails.

Guess we need a guide for elevators, the devs seems to have forgotten not everyone is educated in logic gates to create an elevator with just the rail pieces they give us.

But essential it is put rails, bumpers and sensors, then wire them correctly. The correctly part is the hardest part to get right. And can't help you there as I haven't unlocked the wiring toolbench yet. For some reason I keep restarting my character/universe ;)

And if you are lucky there is already a guide up by someone else.

Thanks for the responses! While I am educated on logic gates, it's simply starting the whole shebang that I'm having trouble with. I have a fifty rail long vertical shaft with a stopper at each end (the red ones). When I put a platform on the rails, it falls all the way to the bottom, and won't move, or sometimes even falls off. Am I using the right stoppers? Is there more wiring that needs to take place? I'm still very lost.

elevators ideas would be great IF the game didn't stop to reload after certain heights.
You will send you elevator down (or up) and it will never come back, because the game just stops to load outside your vision.

I'm in the same position as Ragna Arok; long tunnel, track with a stopper at either end. I wish the old elevators were still an option, but wishing won't make my elevator work. Anyone know more about how rails work and can help?

The wiki sucks at most item descriptions, and the devs haven't always been mature, either ("you only need to use this if you already know what it is")

I'm not sure how any of it works, though I've stolen plenty of pieces from dungeons and have built the rail station as well. I don't know whether it's intended to work without wiring, or doesn't work unless it is wired correctly. I never thought to look at the wiring mode before yanking it all down because hoard.

It doesn't solve the problem many have, wanting to operate elevators across a greater distance than the game loads into memory.

You will be forced to set up several shorter rails, I think. But knowing the maximum length would be nice.

There is no solution that anyone of us can do for the problems with larger shafts then that the game loads blocks in memory. But I noticed that the game still loads more in memory then you can see on your screen. So I could span a few floors with one rail elevator, just not one that goes from the surface to the depths of the core. Which is for most of my bases good enough.
