Good food?
I'm getting pretty far in, I feeel. About to craft durasteel armor. I'm still killing monsters with hunting spears and eating steak to survive. Imean, it works, but i feel like I'm missing out. Any suggestions on how to make better food?

I set up a farm on my ship with wheat, sugar, and chocolate, and penned up some Mooshis and hens in a corner, so that I can run self-sufficiently on chocolate cake. If you're feeling less ambitious, rice is easy to look after, doesn't take much space, is non-perishable and stacks in your inventory before you cook it, and can be cooked over a campfire.

Rice and Chocolat don't rot so that's what I'm aiming for. Big stacks of both.
I'm still eating meat though because I don't have enough Durasteel atm to make sprinklers but it,s a hassle to empty my fridges and hunt over and over because the hunger bar lowers so quickly. I need to farm. I need Durasteel. :SBpenguin:

What are mooshis? And how do you pen anything?

Pearlpea risotto is easy to make and fills you up faster than chocolate. If you're desperate though just make bulk mashed potatoes and turn them into potato grids. Easy to make and lasts ages. Chocolate is inefficient for food but I sell them for extra cash.

Mooshis are space cows. You can buy their eggs at Terra-Mart. By penning them up I just mean I built a wall they couldn't jump over. (I haven't seen them jump at all, actually, so I don't know how high they can go if they can jump at all. If not, a small fence would be plenty.)

Mooshis are cow-sorta-things. You can buy the different varieties of them as well as the different chicken-type-things from a vendor in the outpost.

They produce milk and eggs respectively, greatly expanding your cooking options. The other animals available for sale produce different crafting materials, which you may or may not find useful.

I find it useful to have the ingredients always ready on my ship to bake a few cakes or other ready meals before I beam out - a chocolate cake will fill your fuilness meter along with an energy buff, and other recipes have other buffs. The pearlpea risotto someone else suggested is another good option, since it only takes two ingredients and they're fairly easy to raise in a corner of your ship without animals required.

Rice is minimal effort you just boil it at a campfire and it stacks in your inventory so it doesn't take up much space. The space chickens and cows are pointless, just buy milk and eggs from the space gas station.

how do you get the milk and eggs?

Despite its description, canned food is one of the best in the game. Since at endgame you'll have tons of pixels anyways you might as well buy it from the outpost store.

If you grow wheat you can combine it with meat to make dumplings, which restore a lot of hunger and also give a healing bonus.

Neither of these are the best food items but they're good and easy to obtain.
