Questions about the Crew
1. Whats the max number of crew I can have on my ship?

2. Is there a way to ensure I get the type of crew member I want? like say soldier or medic for example.

3. What are the odds of a bandit surrendering and joining my crew? I've only had one bandit surrender and offer to join my crew but I accidentally dismissed her. fml

1. It's typically 2 per ship upgrade
2. When they offer to join, it says what their specialty is. It's random.
3. It's random. I've only ever seen 1 want to join ( it was a quest target ). So very rare.

Question to 1.) - the highest ship upgrade requires 10 crew members. So after doing the upgrade, is the max number of crew members 12?
MassConnect Aug 5, 2016 @ 7:06pm
Max is 12, the point of most of them is negligible.

There's a neat mod that gives each type of crewmember a different function, all useful in some way ^^

so the crew is usless?
The first outlaw I saw surrendering was trying to trick me.
So... careful of that, I guess.

It's not that they're uselss. It's just that they aren't really game-changing.

Excepting for the machanic or engineer. I'm not sure which one of them reduces fuel costs, but they will reduce fuel cost to zero if you keep them too long.

Chemist buffs don't last very long. The duration is so brief it's rarely going to be there when you would benefit most from it. The buffs are constant on board the ship, but you don't need them on board the ship.

Medic health regeneration hasn't ever worked for me on a planet, it's constant on the ship, but if I'm on the ship, I can take my time healing via bed, food, staff, whatever.

The janitor will not do anything. Literally. The tailor will change the look of the crew, but you can't do anything else with them, and can't take them to the planets.

Soldiers and Outlaws I see no difference in. They're not special in any way. You can take any crew to the planet (except the tailor) and they all particpate in combat about the same. If they die, though, you're on your own. And they aren't all that smart about backpedalling with you when you backpedal, etc. They'll get themselves killed fairly easily. Their damage isn't going to compensate for you lacking your own good gear.

Is there anything worth having? Reduced fuel cost is nice. That's all, and you'll get that benefit after some time and won't need to keep the crew after you have it. So you literally don't need the crew for anything except to upgrade the ship without spending pixels.

No they can do things like help yu out in battle, make fuel cost like zero...., some other things.

Engineer reduces cost, mechanic adds fuel capacity.

I, my merchant, baker, and all 12 crew members are all Avians. That janitor has a lot of bird poop to clean up.

Most important crew member.

actually my mechanic added capacity to my fuel gauge and my engineer makes it so that it costs very little to fly star to star

Before Crew used to be meaningful.

Janitors could find and store Pixels in "Trash Can" related containers ... along with trash. It wasn't much but it could add up if you weren't checking on it. Nothing like finding 1k+ Pixels in a garbage can. Now they don't find Pixels.

Medics had a passive Health Regen that was higher than it is currently, plus it worked on other Crew members while on a Planet. Useful since you can't heal your other members. Now though, the Heal is rather pathetic so unless you want to sit for 5+ minutes so your crew doesn't die to 1 monster ... pointless.

Chemist was supposed to do random Buffs but based on their Race. So a Floran Chemist would often Buff Melee Damage or Move Speed, Avian would increase Jump Height etc. Now it seems really random and the Buff doesn't last long. IMO, useless.

Mechanics and Engineers one increased your Fuel Capacity and the other Reduced Fuel Travel Costs. Don't remember which is which. They still operate the same now, really nice if you don't like farming/buying Fuel and Travel a lot.

Soldiers and Outlaws USED to scale independantly from your Gear, plus Outlaws could have Rare weapons that did Special Effects like Ice/Slow, Burning etc. Which meant they could deal much more Damage than you. It really depended on their Tier, essentially they'd function like "Mini-Yous" and made killing Mobs really easy. Even if they are stupid and prone to dying. However, now they scale off of your Armor .... and crap scale at that. IMO, waste though they make for some solid cannon fodder during Escort Quests.

Overall, aside from Mechanics and Engineers, Crew is completely pointless to get unless you RP or something. Personally, my feminine Floran Crew Member is apparently romatically involved with me. Every time I warp onto my Ship She(It?) makes a Heart emote and follows me around ... Non-stop. I use a Bathroom Stall, she stays there until I come out. I use a Bed to sleep, she jumps on the Bed and stands there. I seal myself in a room and she'll start jumping at the blocks forever. Really creeps me out.

But you look so delicious!

Actually, the chemist is moderately useful on th ship. Pretty sure if you're a Novakid you're going to like that speed boost to get from one end of your train to the other.
Medic is next to useless, though.
Tailor is cool if you don't like the Protectorate armor.
Mechanics and Engineers are the best.
I've not had much of a problem with my soldier, even on frozen star level planets. Sure, I have to destroy some spikes from time to time but she's pretty helpful and gets the attention of monsters. She can take some damage AND make some damage. Saved me a few times when I was trying to get a fossil and a monster managed to fly up to me.
Rio Aug 6, 2016 @ 2:33am
Always box yourself in with something like dirt before doing a fossil.
