Congratulations, you just had quick noms.
But there is a UI problem with it!
From a newbie perspective (which I myself was not a week ago) - moving something out of your inventory and clicking in the world intuitively means throwing an item out (or placing it in the world). And this is the last thing you want to do when you are just a couple of minutes into your first game, and you hear that hunger meter beeping, rushing to find anything edible among yet unfamiliar icons.
A much better solution would be to click with a selected food on yourself. In fact all these actions should work as feeding when you have a food selected: clicking your figure in the inventory, clicking youself in the world, clicking your portait in the upper-left corner.
Even more UI-friendly solution would be a special inventory button (with a mouth icon or a fork&knife icon). Like the trash bin button - familiar and intuitively understandable.
