is there a way to quickly eat from inventory?
am I doing this the dumb way?

when im low on food, I have to equip a bunch of individual food to my hotbar, and mouse click to eat each piece as I put it up... very annoying / tedious, and quite slow.

is there a way to quickly consume the food straight from the inventory?? like a ctrl+click or something like that?

or is the only way to quickly consume multiple pieces of food is to keep your inventory open, and have to mouse click them off your toolbar one at a time???

Select it in your inventory, move it outside of your inventory, left click on empty space.

Congratulations, you just had quick noms.

To expand upon what Ralph said, when you click on something in your inventory, that thing becomes selected as if it was on your hotbar as long as you keep your inventory window open. This holds true for all types of items; blocks, furniture, weapons, bandages, rope, throwables, and yes even food.

This is a sound advice. Wish Google showed it higher up - would save my character one death.

But there is a UI problem with it!
From a newbie perspective (which I myself was not a week ago) - moving something out of your inventory and clicking in the world intuitively means throwing an item out (or placing it in the world). And this is the last thing you want to do when you are just a couple of minutes into your first game, and you hear that hunger meter beeping, rushing to find anything edible among yet unfamiliar icons.

A much better solution would be to click with a selected food on yourself. In fact all these actions should work as feeding when you have a food selected: clicking your figure in the inventory, clicking youself in the world, clicking your portait in the upper-left corner.

Even more UI-friendly solution would be a special inventory button (with a mouth icon or a fork&knife icon). Like the trash bin button - familiar and intuitively understandable.

If the selecting outside the inventory feels wonky, there is another hotbar (think it's z or something that switches between them) so you can do one that's weapons and heals and the other for food/flags. It's just remembering to refill the bar, or if you build something, to put everything back on the bar.
