What happened to the Grappling Hook?

Just curious to either where to craft it now, cause it was my favorite item

In the upgraded foraging station thing under the tab with a flare on it. You can't fire two at once so don't waste material on a second one.

You can get through most of the game just double jumping with spike ball. Grappling hook does help some places though.

The climbing rope is actually better in some situations. Its hook falls as you throw it so if you miss the edge of a cliff, it will still catch something. And I think it has a better range. Not sure.

No fun allowed in Starbound. Everything has to be "balanced" in this noncompetitive cooperative game.

(truth is, they just don't want to put in the work to make more stuff. It's easier to make a bare bones game and call it "balanced".
