Mining is painful as hell starting out

I haven't played this game in forever, pickaxes are gone I take it? The grind of mining in the beginning is pissing me off.

No, they just can't be crafted.

Also I think once you find one, you can buy that type of pickaxe from the bear shop at the outpost. Drills aren't craftable anymore either, but follow the same rule (can buy that type once you find one).

try mine desert planets or snow... They are easy to mine.

Don't mine then. You can find core fragments in mines. Ore in random chests. You will also find a plenty of mm upgrades. And you can buy armor from random merchants. If you think mining is too grindy just choose another progression route.

Yeah hit the mine that's usually right next to your spawn and you will find enough MM upgrades to increase the speed plus a ton of ore.

Interesting find is the Energy Pickaxe; never breaks. Still, I personally believe that an upgraded Matter Manipulator is more efficient, albeit slower; the size upgrade makes tunnelling to accomodate your character size much more streamlined.

1. You dont even need pickaxe for mining. After you upgrade you Matter, all block is easy mostly. Heck i even got Legendary pickaxe "Energy Pickaxe" that cant broken.

Explore find the manipulator stuff and upgrade the mining power , each upgrade saves you a ♥♥♥♥ ton of time mining.

Really hated the mining in this game, dont know why they made the MM two handed. Cant defend yourself and mine, cant hold a torch so you can see what your mining, cant place and break at the same time.

Well i solved that problem made a myriad of Torches that im stickin along my way ...easy to find my Tunnels now as well just follow the Torches.

The mining takes a little adjusting to but it's not that bad. If you're mining for a particularly long time like I sometimes do then play something in the background while you zone out. Be careful you don't accidentally dig into a deep pitfall, though!

get the "universal uncrafter" mod from the workshop; put every weapon you dont need into it and get ores from them. craftable items get broken down to their components, too. very nice mod to have.

Just dig down until you hit a cave system. The cave systems are so well connected that once you hit a cave system you hardly have to dig anymore. Just explore and find the ore.
