what is needed to hatch an egg and another question

I bought an egg and i want to hatch it, how do i do that? Also do i need to place the animal in a cage or can it walk freely on my farm without going to far without getting killed by wild animals.

You just place the egg on the ground and it will hatch after a while. I would recomend putting the animals in safe places. I havent tested it yet that can monsters attack your animals, but with such high price on the eggs, i'd rather not try that yet.

Can farm animals live underground ? im think about digging a large room underground and hatch them all there.
