Or set up a farm on a planet they gets Rain. Then as long as nothing is obstructing the Rain from hitting your tilled land/crops they will start growing on their own. Letting you totally forget about them and explore. When you return they should have grown at least a little bit.
Note that it does take a while for even frequently watered crops to fully grow and produce items. For me my Cotton Plants make Cotton every 1-2 Days, depending on how much Rain I get.
I know, I did that, but when it grows, it grows only the stalk, not the Cotton.
When you say 1-2 Days you mean in real life or in game time?
