Diging 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 and background building

I know that by upgrading the matter manipulator lets you dig 3x3 and even bigger instead of the basic 2x2. Though, is there a way to dig smaller when you need to? Like decoration or building for exemple.

Talking about that, how do we place block on the background?

Hold shift to switch to 1x1. Right click to place on the background.

Shift + right click to place on background? I tried just right click to place into background since it's how we dig from background, but it does not work. I will give it a try soonish and confirm.

Well some mods like this don't realy change the content of the game and are just quality of life changes ;)

As I also play my games vanila first but not withholding mods that add quality of life changes like the one above and the Extended GUI that just change the UI to be better suited for my screen without impacting any actual gameplay.
