Food in Starbound
hey guys. I'm looking for some help with food in this game. Looking at the starboudner wiki its terribly outdated after the game went into release.

So far i've basicly been living off of chokolate. I'm later in the game now and i want to focus mainly on one type of food.

Growth time and hunger gain is the only thing that matters to me atm. Buffs are not important at this point.

What do you guys recommend?

I've just switched over to carrot bread but i'm not sure if its even good for hunger at all

Coconut palms. No need to water or something, nuts stack to 1000 and don't go bad. All you need is to put a straw into one wherever you like. Or into twenty at a time, doesn't matter. Add some rice on top for extra filling. Health buff.
Alien fruit trees. Multiply like crazy because each cut tree give 3-4 saplings and fruits. Lightness and energy buff for fruit jam.
Chocolate. Doesn't go bad, just like canned food. Or almost does not, I saw "extremely well preserved" potatoes eventually going bad and rotting.

1 food = full stomach
Try make "Sheperd's Pie"
Made farm (if you already got portal teleport) in the safe planet
Plant this plant
- Wheat
- Potato
- Corn
- Pearlpeas

To made the "Sheperd's Pie"
- Mash the potatoes
- Get some Raw Steak from animal
- Cook Meat Stew
- Meat Stew + Mashed Potatoes = Sheperd's Pie (effect full stomach & add buff extra health).

Hope this will help you :D :SBpenguin: :SBchicken: :SBpanda: :SBHorse:

Sounds like a really nice pie.

I want to avoid using meat however as it requires farming(of the sort where you dont just press e on some plants) :)

I dont mind more complex recipes as long as they are worth it btw.

The only thing that matters is:
How much hunger does it satisfy and how long does it take to grow

Another idea, if you have a fridge or two, look for a grassland planet. Those spiky green cacti looking things can some times just litter the surface. I've filled my entire food tab with one world, and couldn't carry them all even scarfing them down as I gathered them.

Doesn't seem like they can be planted, but if you need a quick supply without needing anything built or maintained yourself they can help if you happen to be near one.

In the begining, it's a desperate scramble to grow enough food to stay alive.

As you progress a bit, it becomes easier to manage.

Potatoes are a good early crop, as they grow fairly quickly and keep for a long time (uncooked).

Rice, Wheat and Cocoa Beans are good, because they are inert in their harvested form. They take longer to grow and require a bit more micro-management, but you can stockpile a large amount to bring with you when you travel, and cook a bit at a time as you need it. They're not the most filling, but they travel well.

One thing I make a lot of is Beakseed Tarts.

Beakseed, Sugar Cane and Wheat. First you make Beakseed Jam, then you can make the tarts. They're fairly filling and give you a buff. Additionally, they're fairly valuable and can be sold to the Terramart. Each time I harvest, I make a new batch, and sell any of my old ones to the Terramart.

The "Sheperd's Pie" will be made you stomach full with only 1 item
The plant grow shortly
Yes the only problem is farming the meat. I'm mostly got it from venturing 1 planet around 4-5 "Raw Steak".
