How to hatch eggs?
What building do I need and where do I craft it? I got 4 eggs and I would like to hatch them in my spaceship.

just like it on the ground and it'll hatch but picking the animal up is another question

Place the egg on the ground, a chicken will hatch shortly after. The chicken will pace around and change color when mature. Press "E" on the mature chicken to collect your item (egg, batteries, etc.) and it will return to its immature form only to repeat the process.

here is the overly complicated way to achieve hatching

1: buy egg
2: place egg
3: place your character beside it, face it, and press down to promptly, stare at the egg
4: egg starts to wiggle, run around shooting your weapon like a madman
5: egg has shattered and an alien fluffalo has stepped out, admire how adorable it is
6: continue aweing at how adorable baby fluffalo is
7: when it grows is, give it a hug and promptly set course for the nearest sun
8: now as you melt he will produce some item, congrats you raised a fluffylo

EDIT: 9: admire your new-found tan

Since a recent update, there has been a way to pick up farm animals and other entities. Once you have durasteel bars, you can upgrade a foraging table to an agricultural table. Here you can craft something called a relocator from durasteel bars and other materials. The relocator allows you to store friendly entities (farm animals, critters, bugs, fish) in it (up to 3 at a time). You can then use it to drop the entity in a new location.

Another thing, and I can't confirm this, but there seems to be a way to get two animals out of one egg. If you place an egg (say, a Mooshi) next to its mature form (Mooshi egg next to fully grown Mooshi) there's a chance you will get two baby Mooshi out of that egg.
Again, I don't know the real cause of the 2 animals/one egg thing, but its worth a try. I'll start testing this and update it once I know for sure.

Ok question did you say they turn immature no they don’t at all they don’t turn to chicks and you must open the egg by yourself by clicking e on the egg the chicken changes color once it becomes grown up once it changes color it then has a egg once you click e the egg pops out then the chicken restarts the color changing process. It does not turn back into a chick .
5x necro combo (please let this thread die)

Why do I still get notifications on this post after four years
Because people who are playing Starbound for the first time are googling "how to hatch eggs in Starbound," & then commenting. You have to manually unsubscribe from the discussion to avoid the notifications.

you had the option of just not necroing the post lol
True, but it's hard to resist necroing a post where every other comment is about necroing. Also, it's such a watered down usage of the original term, which was more about rebutting an old claim with new evidence unavailable to the the original claimant. Someone adding to or clarifying something about how to hatch a robot chicken in a video game that people are still playing for the first time is really not necroing. It's just adding helpful info for future searchers. I actually found some of the so-called necroing to be helpful, whereas its critics-- they could have just unsubscribed from the discussion, rather than drag out it even longer -- just seemed silly.
