One type of planet that I personally don't build on for that very reason. It being mostly flat being the primary reason.

It was done for those that want a planet to build on without the hassle of mobs or the like.

I know there is a mod though that you probably could transplant grass from another world to that. Think was called the Deco mod or something like that. Where you go to planet with grass you want, copy with tool; then put it where you want, but at a cost of something; I think.

Regardless the planet is just there for certain types of builders.

There is also a mod out there that add new types of barren planets... forgot where to find it though. Try searching 'barren'?

the ones I saw just either changed the background, but not much on the terrain... Exception would be Frakin' Universe which has its' own version if I remember correctly. that and I am for the moment trying to play as close to vanilla as possible. will most likely get to modded version eventually, but I have yet to fully see the game in its' entirety, or the things I want to see at the moment. Thanks anyway. :)

I know what you mean; one of my two settlements was built using an abandoned bunker, and the main settlement was built covering a mesa, with a gas giant and its two other moons in the back ground. Landscape features make for an excelent start for building.

Not sure if there are more colors, I think I've seen green ones but I'm not 100% sure. But yeah, there's nothing on barren planets, even the blocks are useless, except cobblestone. I don't think all planets have even that.

You can also buy grass/flower seeds from the outpost and plant those.

I actually built a pretty large base on a barren planet, just because there are no distractions and it runs better:

I actually didn't find any cobblestone on this planet.

Yeah... The grass wasn't the problem for me. Lystent hit it right on the nail. It is the terrain variations that I like building around, in, and on. Barren is way too flat for my taste. I like something to work with, even if I can come up with an ok amount of ideas on mostly flat terrain. I am one to build with the terrain when I do build. So far in the current version though I haven't actually built much...

More like I've only been remodeling some of the dungeons I have found. Probably will end up building onto those and spread out till it covers the planet, or well one of the ideas I had. Want to build a empire after all... :P

It is nice to see though that people are building on those planets. I may not use too many mods... but maybe might check out the deco mod after a while since I like being able to imitate the grass of other biomes more effetively. I am sure that one doesn't change much in vanilla game play, and that for the moment are the type of mods I would use; like the only one that I have installed, which is a mod that someone made to bring back the outfit look from the old edition for some of the outfits.

Nice place you have there. :)

I have decided that I was really interested in building in the most dangerous environment I could think of:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=770527115
Edit: I can expand on that facility (even if I blow the bubble), and even turn it into a colony. The view is uncommon, and the terrain has fair cravaces and could give way in certain areas.

There is a mod on the workshop that creates "elysium" versions of several of the planet types. That basically means they don't have any enemies but are otherwise identical to other planets of that type.

There is another that greatly reduces or removes enemy respawn on garden planets.

Both are useful for building bases.

Iam sure i was not the only one to dig to the bottom of a barren planet. So I would like to know who had the GREAT idea that without warning you just DIE at the bottom and getting your items back is a pain because they are in the area that gets you killed. (bottom 3 lines)

I think they should've just added a layer of cooled core matterial, like on the moons, to make it feel a bit more complete.

If you're having trouble getting your stuff back down there, just activate /admin temporarily to avoid instant death. (or any death really, it makes you immortal)

Side note: The bottom 3 rows are instant death everywhere. Normal planets with molten cores, Asteroids and dead planets. I haven't tested, but I'm pretty sure it works on mission maps as well.
