Why is the money system in Starbound so unfair ?
I was trying to get some money to buy some batteries when i noticed the price was 2500 pixels. Couple of hours later i manged to make some batteries and i thought i would sell the exess bateries. But they were only worth around 200 pixels per battery ! But it is the same story for just about everything i buy and sell. can someone explain this ? plz

Welcome to RPG-like videogame merchants.

Default merchants buy at 20%.
Terramart Shipments buy at 30%.
Refinery converts ore at 50%.

Pretty much this; used items (items that have been in your inventory) are so poluted with space dust and dirt that the merchants don't want to pay you full price for the items.
This is done out of a health aspect as well as a costumer aspect. The health aspect is because the merchant have to give the items a radiactive treatment to make sure that no bacteria gets through. Also, your character smells bad from never showering and barely changing clothes so your presence works as a deterrent for the customers.

Depreciation.
yea but i did a test and all items in the game (even freshly crafted ones) sell at exactly 1/5 the price that they are marked at in the inv, its a bit silly if you ask me, i mean yes there will be a bit of loss between buying and selling but no buisness in the world buys at 1/5 the market value, primarily becasue no one would sell thier stuff if they did.

lets use a real world example, game stop guys and sell things at rediculious rates, they buy used games that retail for 60 dolars when new at 10 - 15 dolars thne mark it back up to 45 - 50 dolars, which is part of the reason why no body buys and sell games at gamestop anymore (and why tis going out of buisness)

Money already is no problem in this game at end game. Making stuff sell for more just makes the problem worse.

If you need cash sell cosmetics and make large colonies.

You sure PC and console games being available to download online don't have anything to do with that?

GameStop going out of business? I think you need to fact check before you post. Yes, they pulled out of Puerto Rico, but the only "out of business" news was an april fool's article. In the meantime, they've used their disgusting amount of revenue to buy out the AT&T Parrot Cellular store chain of 507 brick and mortar stores to move into the cellphone retail business.

If you make 5 - 6 colonists houses you can get 3k pixels in about 15 minutes.
Or just by selling loot you find in dungeons. Some dungeon objects are worth 300 - 400 pixels

I wish rents would accrue.

Yeah, this game is pretty much like trying to resell old jewelry at a mall kiosk ("We buy all old jewelry, coins and metal, come see us today!"). An old watch may actually be worth $1200, but they'll only give you $150 for it. Same thing in Starbound. Some might call this realism, others call it a cheat.

Best of both worlds - convert dungeons into colonies. Shave off layered walls for themed building materials to partition large rooms into multiple smaller rooms. Move dungeon lights and a scant few decorations to the rooms, then place deeds. Then sell off leftover decorations. Smaller loot profit, but easier colony generation for sustained income. This works very well with Glitch dungeons/dark castles, which already have well defined rooms and lots of crates/barrels to use to summon merchant tenants.

So far my best tip for getting money is either robot chickens. Buy eggs for 1000, they drop the AA batteries, get the terramart shipping thing as well.
Fluffalos are not good for making money, the extracts sell for as much as the AA batteries.

Cocao is good since they stack and never rot.
Ocomelons and Neonmelons have the highest sell price of the vegetables.

However, money isn't much of an issue in the game. Few things need money after all. When you reach frozen or hot stars you get a lot of money from them as well. somewhere between 300-1000
